NEW!
Avaya Voice Messaging System
For
the past several months information Technology Services has been testing
and preparing to roll out an exciting new messaging system! This system,
the Avaya Modular Messaging application provides a single interface to
your voice, email and fax messages. You can retrieve, respond to, and
manage all of your communications from a touch-tone telephone on campus
or away as well as on your PC! Using Microsoft Outlook you can play your
voice messages on your PC or through any telephone, and reply with a voice
message or with email. In addition you can send and receive faxes through
the system and store them on your PC.
To
take advantage of the new system we are requesting that users fill out
a new voicemail request form through the ITS
Job Request System. This will allow us to verify and update any desired
configurations/features regarding your voicemail setup. Once logged in
select Phone - Voice Mail from the drop down list in the Make a New Request
Selection box. Fill out the required fields and you will be contacted
by an ITS staff member. Once your new account is established your Information
Resource Consultant will be available to help with Outlook settings, sending
and receiving faxes, etc.
Please
note that the Avaya modular messaging features are not available for 3-Com
phones. Also, certain features (faxing and forwarding voice messages as
voice messages) are not available for users of Oultook Express.
To
learn more about the new messaging system visit the following link: Telephones.
Select the Voice Mail link in the "How do I access my voice mail?"
section.
Streamlining
Phone Requests
As mentioned
above Phone Requests are now being handled using the existing Job Request
System. As users have become familiar with the easy-to-use interface of
the technical support Job Request System, it was a natural fit for providing
the same convenient contact for users to request all types of services
from ITS. As with other technical service jobs, new phone requests can
also be tracked online to ensure they have been correctly accepted into
the system. Once logged in to the ITS
Job Request System, select My Current under User Options
to see the job number, request date, status, IRC staff assigned and job
details.

Coastal
and ITS Say Goodbye . . .
To
Datatel Programmer Tracey Teeter! Tracey has retired and has made lots
of plans to fill her hours. A special message to you from Tracey:
I
will miss being with all of you at Coastal. This is by far the best group
of people I’ve ever worked with and for these last 8 years, particularly
in ITS and the Registrar’s Office. We’ve been through some
great times and some tough times, but we can always laugh at both. We
are a team over here in the Registrar’s Office. I appreciate the
team’s efforts and have been made to feel that the team appreciates
mine. What better job satisfaction is there than that?
After leaving
Coastal, I will find out if I still like to do the things that I used
to do a lot when I was younger and could fit more into a day: reading,
sewing, photography, walking on the beach, travel. We will be relocating
to Naples, Florida where our two oldest children live, but only after
living in the frozen northland for a time. We will be returning in February
to upstate New York to my home town and the house I grew up in, to help
my two sisters sort out my mother’s belongings and get the house
ready for sale. (Mom died on December 31st). You can be sure I will miss
the mild Coastal Carolina climate!
After we’re
at home in Florida, we will still be traveling up and down the East Coast
to visit our other 3 children in Conway, Charlotte, and upstate New York,
so you can expect an occasional visit.
Tracey
will be keeping her Coastal email address (tracey@coastal.edu)
and I am sure she would welcome emails from her Coastal friends. Plans
are underway to get another programmer in place as soon as possible to
take on Tracey's duties. In the interim please contact Fadi Baroody (ext.
2058) or Ron Dusterhoft (ext. 2292) with any questions.
Campus
Card
The
Campus Card is here for all students, faculty and staff! You should have
received email notification by now requesting you pick up your new card
in Atheneum Hall. According to the new web page describing the campus
card there are several reasons why you should get your card as soon as
possible. The card serves many purposes:
- It
is recognition of your status as a CCU student, faculty or staff member.
-
It enhances the security of the campus.
-
It enables entrance to and/or use of several facilities on campus such
as the library, the gymnasium and Athletic Department equipment, and
certain other student functions.
- It
serves as a financial transaction card for use in the various eateries
on campus. Its multi-function use in different parts of the campus is
why it is called Campus Card, rather than just an ID card.
Over
time additional uses for the card maybecome available including using
the campus card in the campus bookstore, vending machines and public copiers!
Keep your ears open for announcements about the Campus Card and please
visit Campus Card Office
for additional information.
Information
Resource Consultant (IRC) Reassignments
Due
to the many changes and continual growth on campus it has been necessary
to make some changes in the technical support coverage provided by ITS.
In the past you were assigned an Information Resource Consultant (IRC)
based on the college or department you worked in. The new support model
is based on the physical location of your college or department. Please
visit the following web page to see who your IRC is: Information
Resource Consultants. Scroll to the middle of the page and use the
"Find Your IRC" tool! There is also important and helpful information
on this page regarding how to receive the technical support you need.
It is our intent to provide the best customer support possible and I am
hopeful the new assignments will benefit everyone.
WebCT
Campus Edition 6.0 Pilot
This
semester six adventuresome faculty are offering their classes using the
new WebCT Campus Edition 6.0! Their willingness to participate in the
pilot program has been a critical step in our move to a campus-wide implementation
of the upgraded application beginning in Maymester. We are excited about
the new release which is packed with many new features that faculty have
been requesting! Some of these features include:
- Drag-and-drop
file upload. One click opens a web folder into which multiple files
and folders can be easily uploaded.
- One-stop
tool setup. Select and set up multiple tools at one time from one screen.
-
Easier gradebook viewing. Scroll through gradebook columns while student
names remain in view.
-
Separate designer identities. Multiple faculty designers can have individual
identities in a single course.
-
A Student View tab. A separate test student account is no longer needed
for a true student view of the course.
Later
this month you will be receiving information from the TEAL Center regarding
training opportunities to be offered over the next several months. Please
contact Tracy Gaskin at tgaskin@coastal.edu
or X2790 if you would like a test account to get a jump start on the
new WebCT version!
Also,
you can learn more about WebCT Campus Edition 6.0 visit the WebCT
Campus Edition 6 Orientation Center.
