TEAL Technology Lab

The mission of the Technology in Education to Advance Learning (TEAL) Lab is to develop consulting relationships with faculty members from all academic disciplines at Coastal to improve student learning by integrating technology in the teaching process. Click here for more information on the TEAL Technology Lab, visit us on the Conway campus at University Hall 221, or
e-mail us at teal@coastal.edu.

Course initiation procedure

Follow these steps to initiate a distance learning course at Coastal:

  1. Make an appointment with Jennifer Shinaberger ([843] 349-2737) or contact the TEAL Technology Lab ([843] 349-2836) for help in (re)designing your course for distance learning.
  2. If you are utilizing WebCT for your course, request a WebCT course at http://www.coastal.edu/webct/courseRequest.html.
  3. If this is your first distance learning course, print and fill out a contract for your one-time stipend, then sign and forward it to your chair and dean for their signatures. (Contact Jennifer Shinaberger with any questions about this contract.)
  4. Contact the TEAL Technology Lab ([843] 349-2836) for Blackboard (WebCT) training and support.
  5. Bookmark the Blackboard (WebCT) and TEAL Technology Lab home pages. From here you can access your course and find other resources.

Training and general support

Our personnel are available to train and/or provide general support for faculty as they develop technology-enhanced and distance learning courses.

Online grading

Grade online through WebAdvisor. Click here for a complete guide to online grading, or here for a quick guide.

Online student evaluation

Students can access Coastal's online evaluation tool at www.coastal.edu/evaluation.This page provides instructions on logging in as well as support information should they run into technical difficulties. Please inform students that evaluation results are not available to instructors/faculty until after grades have been submitted to the Registrar's Office.

Evaluation results are available within several weeks following finals week. To view your results,

  1. Log in at www.coastal.edu/evaluation. If you do not know your Coastal username and PIN (the ones you use for WebAdvisor), go to https://www.coastal.edu/search/pin/.
  2. Go to the Online Questionnaires page (choose "yes" if presented with a Security Alert screen) and select the View Results tab. You will see two sections: "Your Overall Results" and "Your Classes."
  3. Select the "view" button beside the "Your Overall Results" line. You will see the results from the questions specific to your college. There is also a second question set that can be accessed by selecting the dropdown menu under the questionnaire item. This question set contains several different questions relating to Distance Learning plus the strengths and weaknesses section of the evaluation.

If you have any questions regarding this evaluation tool, please contact Tabitha Singletary at (843) 349-2095 (tcausey@coastal.edu).
