TEAL Center for Faculty Support

The mission of the Technology in Education to Advance Learning (TEAL) Center is to develop consulting relationships with faculty members from all academic disciplines at Coastal to improve student learning by integrating technology in the teaching process.

Functions of the TEAL Center include

  • Distance learning course design, planning and training
  • Administration and support of Blackboard Learn, Coastal's online learning management system
  • Instructional design consultations
  • Provision of training for Adobe Connect webconference software
  • Individual and group training and consultation for instructional technologies
  • Faculty technology workshops each month including online courses.
  • TEAL Staff are available to train and/or provide technology support for faculty as they develop technology-enhanced and distance learning courses.
  • Provision and development of instructional material and resources
  • If you need support with software installations, hardware, or network / email issues,
    please contact your IRC.
    Student technical support is provided by Student Computing Services.

Distance Learning Policies and Training

Follow these steps to initiate a distance learning course at Coastal:

  1. Follow Coastal Carolina University's Distance Learning policy which outlines requirements for faculty readiness to instructor distance learning course including Blackboard and instructional design.
  2. Contact Jennifer Shinaberger (843-349-2737) to discuss training options for help in (re)designing your course for distance learning such as Distance Learning Boot Camp.
  3. If you are using Blackboard Learn for your course, request a Blackboard Learn course at http://www.coastal.edu/blackboard/courseRequest.html. First-time users of Blackboard Learn are required to attend an introductory training session per the Distance Learning Policy (ACAD-133)
  4. Visit the TEAL Center Training page to sign up for Blackboard Learn training and other distance learning faculty sessions.
  5. Bookmark the Blackboard Learn and TEAL Center home pages in your browser.

Submitting Final Grades

Submit final (and mid-term) grades through WebAdvisor.
