What
is distance learning?
Distance
learning is defined as a formal education process in which the majority
of the instruction occurs when student and instructor are not in the same
place. Distance learning may employ correspondence study, or audio, video,
or computer technologies.
Distance Learning's mission:
Coastal
Carolina University is committed to the following goals:

Possessing
the equipment and technical expertise required for distance learning

Evaluating
the educational effectiveness of its Distance Learning programs
to ensure comparability to campus-based programs

Providing
adequate access to the range of student services appropriate to
support the programs, including admissions, financial aid, academic
advising, delivery of course materials, placement and counseling,
and timely and appropriate interaction between students and faculty;
ensuring the currency of materials, programs, and courses; and ensuring
that students have access to and can effectively use appropriate
library sources

of the credits it awards
History of distance learning at Coastal
In Fall 2001, the Distance Learning Implementation Committee was charged
with developing a formal plan for the implementation of a Distance Learning
program at Coastal Carolina University. This program was to serve two
key purposes: to expand the options of study and flexibility available
for students who desire to complete programs and/or course work at Coastal,
and, through the availability of programs and course work via distance
learning delivery, increase the opportunities for access to Coastal
to individuals who might not otherwise have opportunities for such access.
The program is continually guided by the accreditation standards of
the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, the regional accrediting
body that accredits Coastal Carolina University.
The University's goal is to develop complete academic programs adapted
for distance learning delivery. |
