Faculty publish cross-cultural book
Three faculty members in the Spadoni College of Education and eight other faculty members at the University have joined with faculty members from Russian State Social University in Moscow, Russia, to publish a cross-cultural book of readings on the family. The book, Family and Childrearing: Russia and the USA, A Cross-Cultural Analysis was published recently in English and in Russian by Russian State Social University Publishing House. Major themes addressed in the book include social and governmental policy related to the family, the family in a time of world transformations, values and justice in the family, grandparenting and the elderly, education and health, and national traditions and oral narrative in the family. Dr. Dennis Wiseman, Professor of Education, served as one of the book's primary editors and contributed the paper The 21st Century American Family. Dr. Nancy Ratcliff, Associate Professor of Education, contributed the paper Family Involvement in Early Childhood Education and Dr. Pat Piver, Assistant Professor of Education, contributed the paper The Many Faces of Adoption in the Transformation of the American Family. Dr. David DeCenzo, President of Coastal Carolina University, wrote a Preface to the book from Coastal Carolina University as did Dr. V.I. Zhukov, Rector of Russian State Social University. Professor Lev Mardahaev served as the book's primary editor from Russian State Social University.
