Education majors recently collaborated with representatives from CCU's Council for Exceptional Children and SSCEA to participate in the annual Special Needs Family Fun Day. Eighty teacher candidates gathered at the farm belonging to Elaine and Davis Lee to prepare a fun carnival-themed day for children with various disabilities. Approximately 180 participants with various disabilities came to enjoy a day full of games, food, and laughter under several real circus tents! Families of children with disabilities enjoyed watching and participating in activities especially designed for their children, including story-telling with spoken word, sign language, and puppets, face painting in the beauty tent, and clown dunking! Under the big top in the main circus tent was a DJ who helped keep all the participants dancing and singing throughout the day. There were plenty of hot dogs and hamburgers, along with a popcorn machine and snow cones. The headline event was a special version of a cake walk where everyone had to dance to special music to earn their very own special cupcake.
