and 2007-2008 Plan as one Microsoft Word file.
Please note that, for the 2006-2007 Annual Report, you may use either
the following format or the Planning and Assessment forms. In the latter
case, please remember to include a section on "Use of Assessment
Results."
FORMAT
Office/Department/Program:
I. Assessment Report for 2006-2007
A. Mission Statement
A short,
one paragraph general explanation of what the program/department/office is and
why it exists. The mission statement
supports the University's mission statement.
Example: The Enrollment Services Division is committed to developing and
implementing strategies that ensure the opportunity for full participation of
all students to attain access to, success in, and graduation from
Coastal Carolina University. As a provider of services to students,
parents, faculty, and staff, the Enrollment Services Division seeks to expand,
enhance, and improve the quality of its services. Enrollment Services, through cooperation with
Academic Affairs and Student Affairs, works to support and recommend campus-wide
policies, programming, instruction, and other activities for the benefit of
prospective and current students.
B. Strategic
Goals
Goal 1:
The Goal
statement is the general aim of the program/department/office that supports the
mission. The Goal statement lists
intended outcomes required by the mission statement.
Example: Kimbel Library will offer instructional services and programs that
support the course curriculum and develop information literate students,
faculty, and staff.
Example: Foster learning processes that are inquiry-based and participatory,
involve undergraduate research and public engagement experiences, and include
the broad application and effective use of technology (Academic Affairs).
University Strategic Plan Goal ___: Your Goal
must be tied to the new University Strategic Plan by identifying a Goal
from that document.
Objective 1.1.a:
An
Objective is more specific than a goal statement and describes the intended
outcome in measurable terms.
Example: Plan and implement an Orientation program that will encourage the
conversion of deposited freshmen and transfers into fully matriculated
students.
Example: Develop and implement a pilot project integrating technology with
teaching and learning within the
College of Natural
and Applied
Sciences (ITS).
Criteria 1.1.a:
Criteria,
or “Action Plans,” are specific actions that are implemented to achieve the
Objective. Think of Criteria as steps to achieving the Objective. The
following examples could be more specific, depending on how much detail
you need.
Example: Schedule a variety of presentations and other activities at each
Orientation program that are designed to address the academic, personal,
social, and recreational needs of new students.
Example: Conduct a student caller training event to prepare for a personalized
alumni phone-a-thon segmented by college (University Advancement).
Methods 1.1.a: Methods are
tools or strategies used to assess successful completion of the Criteria,
similar to "Assessment Methodology and Benchmark."
Example: To assess participant satisfaction with the Orientation program, an
evaluation form will be available online for completion by participants after
the program. Program success will be
defined as 70% of participants expressing satisfaction with the overall
Orientation program.
Example: For the Criteria, "Develop and print new Corporate Coastal Fund
brochures," a Method could be "Brochure will be developed by May 2006 and 5,000
copies will be printed for distribution by June 2006."
Assessment Results 1.1.a: The
Assessment Results section presents the findings of assessment efforts, similar
to "Observed Results."
Example: The Orientation program evaluation form was available online through the
CCU website. Information about the evaluation
form and its location was announced to students and parents frequently during
the Orientation program. It was also
available in print in the Orientation Handbook. Response: 80% of freshmen and 70%
of parents completed the survey. Results
indicate that 75% of respondents were satisfied with the Orientation
program. However, 80% were not satisfied
with the length of the career services session, i.e. it was too short.
Use of Assessment Results 1.1.a.:
The Use of
Assessment Results section explains the actions taken based on assessment
results, and documents changes and reasons for the changes. It is important to illustrate that you are
making changes based on assessment results. This section "closes" the assessment loop.
Based on evaluation form results, the Orientation Advisory Committee
will schedule a longer career services session during the Orientation program.
Example: Based on results from the 2006 Kimbel Library Survey, the Library will
expand Saturday hours from
9:00 am
to
5:00 pm
to
9:00 am
to
9:00 pm
during the fall and spring semesters.
Note: You will use the same format for additional Goals, Objectives, Criteria,
Methods, Assessment Results, and Use of Assessment Results.
