Students need to be prepared to pay for Maymester by May 5, 2010 if their financial aid is not yet processed.
This deadline is strictly enforced.
General Information
The Office of Financial Aid will begin accepting 2010 applications on February 1, 2010. This application is required to process all financial aid (grants, scholarships and loans) for summer.
For financial aid purposes, all summer sessions are combined into one processing term. To be considered for student aid, including some private/alternative educational loans, you must be enrolled on at least a half-time basis, defined as 6 hours spread over all summer sessions (May, Summer I and Summer II). In some circumstances, students may be eligible for Pell Grant funds and private/alternative loans if enrolled in less than six credit hours.
To be considered for federal financial aid for summer, you must have a current year FAFSA on file. The 2010 summer sessions require the completion of the 2009-2010 FAFSA. It is recommended to complete the 2010-2011 FAFSA as soon as possible after February 1, 2010 so that we will receive your processed form by March 1, 2010, our priority deadline for the 2010-2011 academic year. We will also have the ability to look at both your 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 FAFSA's and determine which we should use to maximize your eligibility for additional Pell Grant funds.
Summer 2010 Financial Aid Application
Students who are attending classes at another institution must have an approved consortium in addition to meeting the other eligibility requirements. Some Study Abroad courses may also require a consortium agreement. An appointment with a financial aid counselor is required. The deadline for consortium students to apply is April 1, 2010.
Students who received Federal Stafford Loans up to their full annual eligibility during the fall and spring semesters are not eligible for Federal Stafford Loans in the summer. Borrower eligibility for Federal Stafford Loans will begin again the following academic year.
Any change in enrollment could result in a change to your financial aid eligibility. Decreases in enrolled credit hours, non-attendance in a class, or a total or unofficial withdrawal from summer classes may result in changes to your aid. You may lose eligibility for aid you've already received, including having to return funds already received. We may also cancel any pending disbursements, and/or deny the processing of any new loan requests.
For most students, summer aid consists of private student loans and/or Federal Parent/Graduate PLUS loans. To apply for these loans you will need to complete the loan applications(s) along with the Summer Financial Aid Application.
Pell Grant recipients need to refer to the new Pell Grant Policies to determine possible eligibility for summer financial aid.
Students must be making satisfactory academic progress in order to be considered for summer aid. Students should review the Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements.
