Merit-Based Scholarships


Students are automatically considered for University merit-based scholarships, following acceptance to CCU.
There is no separate application process.

  •  New, incoming undergraduate students, both freshmen and transfers, are eligible for consideration.
  • Students are eligible to receive only one scholarship from the merit-based scholarship program. This includes the VPA Merit-based and PGM Merit-based Scholarships. The Honors Program invitation is not considered a merit-based scholarship.
  • When reviewing the requirements please note;
    • All references to SAT scores refer to the combined critical reading and math sections only. The third, ‘writing section’, is not evaluated. 
    • All references to the ACT scores refer to the composite score from one individual test
    • For freshman awards; the cumulative weighted high school GPA as reported on the student’s high school transcript will be reviewed.
    • For transfer awards; the cumulative collegiate GPA, which includes all college coursework, not just that earned from last institution attended, will be reviewed.
  • The initial awarding process will begin in November of each year. Eligible students will be notified with an official offer letter sent via U.S. mail.
  • Students must be admitted to CCU by the priority deadlines outlined to ensure consideration.
    • Fall applicants must be admitted by the priority deadlines of January 1, March 1, or June 1 as described below.
    • Spring applicants must be admitted by November 1.

Freshmen Awards
Presidential Scholarship
In-State: $6,000 per year Out-of-State: $11,000 per year*  

Priority Admission Deadline: January 1 or November 1

1.  1400 SAT or 32 ACT; and
2.  High School GPA 3.75+   
President’s Scholar Award 
In-State: $4,000 per year     Out-of-State: $9,500 per year*   

Priority Admission Deadline: January 1 or November 1

1.  1250 SAT or 27 ACT; and
2.  High School GPA 3.5+     
Provost's Scholar Award  
In-State: $2,000 per year Out-of-State: $8,500 per year*  

Priority Admission Deadline: March 1 or November 1

1.  1200 SAT or 26 ACT; and
2.  High School GPA 3.5+     
Coastal Scholar Award   
In-State: $1,000 per year   Out-of-State: $6,000 per year*  

Priority Admission Deadline: March 1 or November 1

1.  1100 SAT or 24 ACT; and
2.  High School GPA 3.5+     
Honors Program Award  
In-State and Out-of-State
A new laptop computer to use while attending Coastal Carolina University.   

Priority Admission Deadline: January 1 - Invitation only

1.  1200 SAT or 26 ACT; and 
2.  High School GPA 3.5+      
Visual and Performing Arts Merit-Based Scholarship  
In-State: $2,000 per year     Out-of-State: $6,500 per year*   

Priority Admission Deadline: March 1 or November 1

1. 1000 SAT or 21 ACT;
2. High School GPA 3.0;
3. Must major in art studio, graphic design, music, musical theatre or theatre arts; and
4. Must be recommended by department

Professional Golf Management Program Scholars Award    
These awards are for freshmen students majoring in the
Wall College of Business with the Professional Golf Management (PGM) specialization.
Transfer students and spring applicants should consult with the
PGM Program Director for scholarship eligibility.
 PGM Trustee Scholarship
 In-State: $4,000 per year  Out of State: $9,500 per year*

Must be admitted into PGA Program by March 30th

1.  1250 SAT or 27 ACT; and
2.  High School GPA 3.5+     
PGM University Scholarship
 In-State: $3,000 per year Out of State: $6,500 per year* 

Must be admitted into PGA Program by March 30th

1.  1100 SAT or 24 ACT; and
2.  High School GPA 3.00+   
PGM Wall Scholarship
In-State: $2,500 per year  Out of State: $4,000 per year*

Must be admitted into PGA Program by March 30th

1.  1000 SAT or 21 ACT; and
2.  High School GPA 3.00+   

 Transfer Awards
  Coastal Transfer Award  
 In-State  - $1,000 per year  Out-of-State - $4,000 per year* 

Priority Admission Deadline: June 1 or November 1

1.  30 transferrable credits; and               
2.  Cumulative Collegiate GPA 3.25 – 3.49
 In-State  - $1,500 per year  Out-of-State - $6,500 per year*

Priority Admission Deadline: June 1 or November 1

1.  30 transferrable credits; and     
2.  Cumulative Collegiate GPA 3.5+
 Visual and Performing Arts Transfer Scholarship    
 In-State - $2000/year  Out-of-State - $6500/year*

1. 30 transferrable credits;
2. Cumulative Collegiate GPA 2.75+;
3. Must major in art studio, graphic design, music, musical theatre or theatre arts; and
4. Must be recommended by department

* Out of state scholarships will be placed on the account as a $500 scholarship with the remaining value reflected in a University Tuition Waiver.
* An out-of-state tuition waiver(s) may not exceed the difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition.
