Merit-based Scholarships

No application required
(Automatic consideration will be given to students who meet the minimum requirements and are accepted by the respective dates.)

President's Scholarship
In-State - $4000/year Out-of-State - $7500/year*

Must be admitted by January 1 or November 1
- 1250 SAT or 27 ACT and
- Cumulative GPA 3.5+

Must be admitted by January 1 or November 1
- 1300 SAT or 29 ACT and
- Cumulative GPA 3.5+

Provost's Scholarship
In-State - $2000/year Out-of-State - $6500/year*

Must be admitted by March 1 or November 1
- 1200 SAT or 26 ACT and
- Cumulative GPA 3.5+

Must be admitted by March 1 or November 1
- 1200 SAT or 26 ACT and
- Cumulative GPA 3.5+

Coastal Scholar Award
In-State -$1000/year Out-of-State - $4000/year*

Admitted by March 1 or November 1

- Cumulative GPA 3.5+

Honors Program Award
In-State and Out-of-State
A new laptop computer to use while attending Coastal Carolina University and participating in the Honors Program.

Must be admitted by January 1 or March 1- Invitation only
1 - 1200 SAT or 26 ACT
2 - High School GPA 3.5+
3 - Top 20% of class

Coastal Transfer Award
In-State Out-of-State
Must be admitted by June 1 or November 1
- GPA 3.25 - 3.49 and completed 30 transferable credits; $1000/year
- GPA 3.5 - 4.0 and completed 30 transferable credits; $1500/year
Must be admitted by June 1 or November 1
- GPA 3.25 - 3.49 and completed 30 transferable credits; $4000/year*
- GPA 3.5+ and completed 30 transferable credits; $6500/year*

Visual and Performing Arts Scholarship
In-State - $2000/year Out-of-State - $6500/year*
Priority deadline is March 1 or November 1
- 1000 SAT or 21 ACT and
- minimum HS GPA of 3.0 and
- must major in art studio, dramatic arts, graphic design, music or musical theatre. Audition/portfolio required

Professional Golf Management Program Scholars Award
These awards are for freshmen students majoring in the Wall College of Business with the Professional Golf Management (PGM) specialization. Transfer students and spring applicants should consult with the PGM Program Director for scholarship eligibility.

$5000/year
First-time freshman must meet 2 out of the 3 following criteria:
- 1100 SAT or 24 ACT
- 3.0 HS GPA (SC UGS)
- Rank within the top 30% of HS class

Palmetto Fellows Scholarship Program
Application required

SC residents may receive up to $6,700 their freshman year and up to $7,500 during their sophomore, junior and senior years. Awards must be applied directly toward the cost of attendance, less any other gift aid received.

First time freshman must meet the following minimum requirements:
- 1200 SAT or 27 ACT and
- minimum HS GPA of 3.5 and
- Rank in the top 6%

SC Palmetto Fellows and Palmetto LIFE Enhancements
Automatic, no application required
Available to eligible students receiving the base SC Palmetto Fellows or Palmetto LIFE Scholarship who are pursuing majors in the following content fields: mathematics, science, health promotion, and middle grades education with specializations in both math and science.
Up to $2500/year added to the base SC Palmetto Fellows or Palmetto LIFE Scholarship base award.
To be eligible for the enhancements, students must complete specific criteria during their first year of college enrollment.

Horry County Higher Education Commission Scholarships
Leadership
$2500/yr
Application required by March 1
- currently attending Horry County HS
- first-time freshmen only
- minimum 2.5 HS GPA through the junior year
- brief essay and recommendation by HS principal required
Visual & Performing Arts
$2500/yr
Application required by March 1
- currently attending Horry County HS
- first-time freshmen only

- audition or portfolio presentation required

Chanticleer Band Program Award
In-State and Out-of-State
Audition required;
Student is/will be an active participant in the Chanticleer Marching Band.
Awards range from $1000-$1500/year depending on the number of years a student has participated in the Chanticleer Marching Band.

FEDERAL AND STATE GRANTS - Must complete the FAFSA

Pell Grant
Federal grant; need based; full-time enrollment; current award up to $5,550/yr (2011 academic year); pro-rated for less than full-time.     

SEOG Opportunity Grant
Federal; high need; limited funds; at least 1/2 time enrollment; pro-rated for less than full-time; amount varies up to $1500/year

SC Need-Based Grant - (In-State only)
State funded; limited funds; at least 1/2 time enrollment; pro-rated up to $1500/year

FEDERAL WORK STUDY AND LOANS - Must complete the FAFSA

Federal College Work-study
Need-based; work 10-20 hrs/week; federally subsidized; at least 1/2 time enrollment

Federal Perkins Loan
Need-based loan; limited funds; at least 1/2 time enrollment; interest free while in school; 5% in repayment; up to $2,000/yr

Federal Stafford Loan
Subsidized Unsubsidized
Must be attending at least half-time (6 credit hours); interest free while in school; loan limits based on grade level; $3500 (FR), $4500 (SO), $5500 (JR & SR); 6 month grace period; low interest (fixed at 3.4% for undergraduates; 6.8% for graduate and professional), need-based aid. Must be attending at least half-time (6 credit hours); low interest (fixed at 6.8%) while in school; loan limits based on grade level; 6 month grace period, not need-based.

Federal Parent PLUS Loan
Parent loan based on credit approval; FAFSA required; at least 1/2 time (6 credits) enrollment; can borrow up to Cost of Attendance; fixed interest rate of 7.9%; repayment begins 60 days after last disbursement of the loan.

Federal Graduate PLUS Loan
Graduate student loan based on credit approval; FAFSA required; Student must maximize Stafford Loan eligibility before using funds from Grad PLUS Loan; at least ½ time (6 credits) enrollment; can borrow up to Cost of Attendance; 7.9% fixed interest rate; repayment begins 60 days after last disbursement of the loan.

SC Teacher's Loan - In-state residents only
Education Majors; FAFSA not required; at least 1/2 time (6 credits) enrollment; full repayment of loan(s) if teach in SC: specific criteria to qualify; Awarded on first come, first serve basis until funds are depleted; $2500/yr freshman & sophomore; $5000/year Jr & Sr
