Study Abroad Madrid BannerThe Program
Take advantage of this excellent opportunity to earn university credit while acquiring or improving conversational Spanish skills in one of the most beautiful of the European capitals. Participants will arrive in Madrid on Sunday, May 8, 2005. Classes will begin on Monday, May 9, and will meet five days a week. Students will receive three hours of credit (no grade) for the SPAN 350 Intensive Spanish course. Under the instruction of Coastal professors, students will also earn three hours of credit for SPAN 130 or SPAN 330. Students will receive a grade for the course work taught by Coastal faculty.

Activities
To expand your academic experience, several excursions are included in the program. A Saturday excursions to Toledo and Avila are planned as well as half-day excursions during the week to El Monasterio de El Escorial, and El Valle de los Caidos. Weekly excursions in Madrid include such sights as the Prado Museum, one of the top art museums in the world; the Retiro Park; the Royal Palace; and the Reina Sofia Center of Art. Students will also see a bullfight, flamenco dancing and other cultural events.


AccomodationsWhile in Madrid all students will live with either host families or apartments. Room and board will consist of a shared room with breakfast, a packed lunch, and dinner each day. Laundry is included in the price of the accommodations.

TRANSPORTATION: The group will fly out of Myrtle Beach on Saturday, May 7, 2005 on Delta Airlines and will arrive in Madrid on Sunday, May 8, 2005. (There is a six-hour time difference between Eastern Standard Time and Madrid time). Transportation is provided from the airport in Madrid to the school where the host families will meet the students. On the return flight, participants will leave Madrid around noon on Saturday, May 28 and arrive in Myrtle Beach in the evening.

Payment Plan
Picture of MadridThe fee for this three week program including airfare, room and board, instruction for SPAN 350, and the excursions noted in this brochure is $2,490. This price DOES NOT include tuition for SPAN 130 or SPAN 330. Tuition for the latter is $600. The tuition portion must be paid to the Bursar’s Office before leaving on the trip. In Spain, students will be provided with bus or metro fare to and from school and on city excursions.

Other costs will include passport fees, a required international student identification card (ISIC) for $22, and passport photos. You are required to provide proof of adequate health insurance (which must include evacuation/repatriation coverage) to participate. If you do not have coverage, you may purchase a one-month policy through the Office of International Programs and Services for $29.
