Exemptions to the Foreign Language Requirement
College Level Examination Program
This test is recommended for students with near native speaking ability. Students may take the CLEP test and receive college credit for various courses; some language courses included. Non-native English speaking students may not use the CLEP test for their native language.
Students who place above the 130 level on the French, German, or Spanish placement test and wish to receive credit for 130 or above, may take the College Level Examination Program (CLEP) that is administered at CCU's Testing Center located in Myrtle Beach (843-349-4004).
Test of English as a Foreign Language
Students whose native language is not English may be exempt from the foreign language requirement. This includes international students who are non-native speakers of English with an acceptable TOEFL.
A student transferring to the Coastal from another college or university should, before enrolling in any course at the Coastal, have transcripts evaluated by the Office of Admissions. It is only through such evaluation that a student will know which transferred courses may be applicable toward Coastal degree requirements.
