WELCOME TO UNIVERSITY 110:
Quick Facts

Title: UNIV 110: First-Year Experience.
Credits: 3 credit hours;
required for graduation from CCU.
Schedule: 64 sections in Fall, 2006;
sections as necessary in Spring;
no Fall I or II or Spring I or II;
no summer classes.
Sections: 64 total;
21 science;
19 business;
8 education;
7 humanities and fine arts;
8 undeclared (sections may vary with final enrollments)
Times: TTH 8:30am or 1pm; MW 1pm.
Co-enrollment: Students will be co-enrolled in a core course.
Grading: A-F;
if a student receives lower than a C-, the student will have one opportunity to re-take the class in the subsequent regular semester. If the student is not successful in the second attempt, the student will not be allowed to return to CCU.
Catalog Description: UNIV 110 is designed to enhance the satisfaction and success of first-year students. The course focuses on developing creative and critical thinking, information literacy skills, improving written and oral communication skills, setting personal and academic goals, developing structured and consistent study habits, practicing effective time management, and becoming contributing members of the Coastal community.

Syllabus:

2 weeks on creative/critical thinking and cohort development tied to BIG READ;

3 weeks on information literacy, strategic reading, learning styles, study skills;

2 weeks on health, diversity, money, relationships;

2 weeks on service learning project;

2 weeks on academic advising/career planning;

3 weeks creative/critical thinking related to discipline of major.

Weeks arranged at discretion of faculty and visiting speakers.

All classes use WEBCT 6.0 management system.
