Ways to Give

Cash Gifts

Cash gifts offer tax decuation for the full amount of the gift in the year it is given. Pledges may be paid over a period of time.

Gifts-In-Kind are generally defined as “non-cash donations of materials or long-lived assets, other than real and personal property.” These may include such things as printed materials, food or other items used for hosting events, etc.

Stocks, Bonds or Property

Much like cash, gifts of stocks, bonds or property are tax deductible at full fair market value. The donor is not taxed on long-term capital appreciation. Appraisal of the real estate establishes fair market value and, in turn, the amount of the tax deduction. Real estate gifts may avoid capital gains tax. A donor may also sell a parcel to CCU for less than fair market value and claim the difference as a charitable gift.

Annual Gifts vs. Endowments

Annual Gifts and Endowments are two additional ways to donate. Annual gifts accrue no earnings and are awarded annually based upon the amount received each year. The amount donated in a particular year comprises the full amount to be awarded for the specified purpose. Endowments are created through the establishment of a permanent fund that generates earnings on a perpetual basis for the purpose specified in the gift agreement.

Scholarships, Chairs and Professorships

Scholarships, Chairs and Professorships serve as incentives for high-performing students and accomplished faculty. Scholarships are very important to attract and retain the best and brightest students. Whether a scholarship is merit- or need-based, donors are positioning the University to thrive and sustain a growing legacy.

Chairs and professorships foster academic research and provide salary support, which allow CCU to offer its students a top-notch faculty.
