Request for Change in a Graduate Level Course (Change in Catalog Description)

-    CMWS 699 Graduate Seminar III (1.0) Change in course description from: Participation will require public presentation of the completed thesis. To: Techniques for communicating results of thesis research.

 

Request for Addition of or Change in Degree Program

-    Master of Education degree program in Educational Leadership (36.0) The Masters of Education in Educational Leadership requires a completion of 36 semesters of graduate work.  A minimum of 27 hours must be completed in the major.  The remaining nine(9) credit hours are designed as followed: Research, Diversity and Curriculum.

 

Request for Addition of a New Course – Graduate Level

-    EDAD 600 Introduction to Educational Leadership(3.0) Examines purposes/organizational structures of educational institutions created by federal, state and local governments offering programs/services from early childhood through adulthood.  Contemporary operational and administrative problems, and developing trends are considered for analysis.

-    EDAD 635 School Personnel Administration (3.0) Focus on techniques to maintain effective human relations and the use of human resources.  Staff evaluation systems, staffing projections, staff related record management and benefit programs are examined.  Emphasizes negotiations in the public sector and contract management.

-    EDAD 660 Supervision of Instruction (3.0) Provides a theoretical and practical overview of the supervision and evaluation of instruction.  Introduces the domains of supervision and inquiry into current issues and best practices in supervision.

-    EDAD 680 School and Community Relations (3.0) Developing an understanding and effective communication relative to the community power structure, student and teacher militancy, civil rights issues, societal polarization, media relations, adequate financial support and instituting educational change.

-    EDAD 684 School and Financial Issues (3.0) Instruction to school fiancé at all levels. Applies contemporary theories of economics to educational funding, sources of revenue, resource allocation considerations, and study of current trends in fiscal structure/operations in education. Ethics in school finance is examined.

-    EDAD 686 Legal Basis of Educational Organization and Administration (3.0) Basic principles of school law with special attention to legislation in South Carolina and related court decisions. Other related topics such as tenure, teacher dismissal, employment, publications and limitations on the Board of Education will be examined.

-    EDAD 689 School Principal (3.0) Analyzes and investigates roles and functions of the principalship.  Emphasis on linking theory to practice, facilitating transition to leadership position, and development of appropriate skills and attitudes. Leadership and management are addressed.  Issues facing the principal are discussed.

-    EDAD 694 Elementary School Principal in Practice – Internship (6.0) Practical experience in the duties and responsibilities of the school principal and related problems.  The intern will be assigned a principal in the field.  This is a two-semester course for six hours of graduate credit.

-    EDAD 696 Secondary School Principal in Practice – Internship (6.0) Practical experience in the duties and responsibilities of the school principal and related problems.  The intern will be assigned a principal in the field.  This is a two-semester course for six hours of graduate credit.
