B.     Graduate Studies Mission/Vision Current Mission Statement:

The Office of Graduate Studies, administered by the Director of Graduate Studies, is a centralized administrative unit whose mission is to organize and support graduate programs of the University and to develop and coordinate graduate programs that have the highest level of excellence.

The primary goal of the Office of Graduate Studies is to facilitate the

development and offering of Master’s degree programs in selected areas that are

consistent with the mission of the University, to extend the intellectual

contributions of the University, and to respond to the unique needs of the local

  service areas.

Suggested Vision/Mission Statement:

Graduate Studies, at Coastal Carolina University, provides an innovative community where a stronger synergy between faculty, staff and students of diverse cultures and perspectives embrace academic excellence and research, foster social purpose through meaningful service and inspirit personal fulfillment.

Aligned with the University mission, programs affiliated with Graduate Studies educate and motivate students to assume leadership roles in professions that improve and enrich the lives of individuals, families, and communities through advanced learning and service. Graduate Study also serves as an inspiration for change - striving toward transforming individuals’ lives. Graduate programs should offer rigorous academic programs that prepare students, both in theory and practical applied knowledge, to serve as leaders in their communities, organizations, and businesses. CCU graduates lead by example and function.  A ‘professional product’ in an area of specialization is produced through inquiry and investigation, research and/or creative endeavors.  Individual work should exhibits related intent, content, methodology, and product; shaped by the way that inquiry, investigation and creativity are used to produce work in various scholarly, pedagogical, artistic or other specializations. The ability to practice in one or more specializations should be demonstrated through competencies related to the creative work, inquiry, and investigation normally associated with the specialization(s) chosen.

Graduate Studies also serves as a platform in which to enhance the relationship between the humanities, the sciences, and social sciences; relating specialization on larger social, cultural, educational, economic, and technological contexts; and the nature and application of thinking and pedagogy. Coastal Carolina University serves in the southeast region as a leading accredited institution in academic excellence, values-centered education, and technology.
