Health Promotion Club and Eta Sigma Gamma members joined together to form "Team Health Promotion" and participate in the April 2007 Relay for Life on CCU's campus. They raised $8,123.00 for the American Cancer Society in this event. Health promotion majors and minors who demonstrate exemplary service
to the community and academic achievement are eligible for admission into
a national honor society, Eta Sigma Gamma. This honorary was established
on the Coastal Carolina University campus in the Spring of 2000. In
the Fall of 2002 our chapter was the recipient of the "Service Project of
the Year Award". Email Dr.

Students interested in pursuing graduate work in allied health fields
may plan their cognate and elective courses within the health promotion
major to include the basic science prerequisites needed for admission into
graduate school. Previous health promotion graduates have been accepted
into a variety of allied health programs, such as: physical therapy,
occupational therapy, physician’s assistant programs, nursing, audiology,
and chiropractic schools.
The Bachelor of Science major in Health Promotion at Coastal Carolina University
was approved by the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education in May,
1997. Currently, our program is one of the fastest growing majors on campus
with over 300 majors. Students completing this degree program are qualified
to take the Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) Exam. Many
health education positions require this credentialing for employment.
