Delta Zeta Chapter -
Health Promotion Honor Society
The purpose of Eta Sigma Gamma is to elevate the standards, ideals,
competence and ethics of professionally trained men and women in, and for,
the health education discipline through teaching, research, and service.
Eta Sigma Gamma is more than an honorary, it is a tradition and a commitment
to promote the highest ideals of professionalism. In order to be
eligible for membership, students must be enrolled as a Health Promotion
major or minor for at least one semester, have at least a 3.0 GPA, and
demonstrate high professional standards.
Eta Sigma Gamma was established on the campus of Ball State University
in 1967 and has grown to include over one-hundred chapters. Our chapter,
Delta Zeta, was established on March 6, 2000.
Service Projects
Horry County Shelter Home, Halloween Party - We have hosted a Halloween party for the residents of the Horry County Shelter Home for the past 2 years. This event has been well-attended by honor society members and enjoyed by all.
American Cancer Society, Relay for Life - In 2006 and 2007, we joined the Health Promotion Club in creating "Team Health Promotion" to walk in this benefit for the American Cancer Society. The 2007 Relay for Life event was held on Coastal Carolina University's campus. Our team included 30+ members and we raised $8,123.00 for cancer research and support this year.
Waccamaw Youth Center - In 2003, our chapter was the recipient of the Eta Sigma Gamma National Service Project Award. Our chapter participated in a fundraiser and volunteered many hours with the residents of Waccamaw Youth Center, a home for abused and neglected boys in Conway, South Carolina.
