Welcome and Overview
 Welcome to the School of Health, Kinesiology, and Sport Studies (HKSS) at Coastal Carolina University. We are a comprehensive unit offering undergraduate programs in the diverse and growing areas health, kinesiology, and sport and leisure studies.
We are proud of who we are and what we do. HKSS programs align with national standards of excellence. Our faculty members are outstanding student-oriented teachers and regional or national leaders in their field. Our students are challenged to engage in theory, best practice, and professionalism during their program.
HKSS is a diverse collection of programs and experiences that collectively impact individuals and communities. In a typical lifespan, a healthy individual is touched by professionals from all of our disciplines. As health behaviors and choices are paramount to a productive society, Health Promotion prepares students to plan, deliver, manage, and evaluate programs and policy to broadly impact public and community health. As physical activity skills are often best learned when interwoven within school-based setting and delivered by qualified instructors, Physical Education provides future teachers with the knowledge, skills, and dispositions to lead PK-12 students to a lifetime of physical activity. To best study the health-enhancing impact of physical activity, the Exercise and Sport Science program prepares students to analyze human movement so they may expertly assess and prescribe exercise for individuals and groups in a variety of exercise and rehabilitative settings. Since leisure, recreation, and sporting pursuits are essential to a healthy and balanced society, Recreation and Sport Management arms students with the knowledge and skills to plan, organize, deliver, and assess quality programs and facilities.
