About the Center
Welcome to the Institute for Leadership and Public Policy at Coastal Carolina University.
The focus of the Institute for Leadership and Public Policy is to engage students in active learning opportunities where they may gain knowledge in various areas of policy research. Our goal is to provide students with experience that will connect academic theory to practice as well as foster the importance of civic-minded citizens.
The Institute consists of three initiatives: polling, policy analysis, and leadership. The polling initiative is designed to produce scholarly survey research as well as polling of general attitudes about governance and policy preferences. The policy analysis initiative exists to provide quality, nonpartisan, scholarly analyses of local, state, regional, national, and international policy issues. The leadership initiative will include students in the Jackson Scholars program, from the Jackson Family Center for Ethics and Values, as well as students across campus interested in increasing civic engagement in the local community.
The mission of the Institute for Leadership and Public Policy is to create public value by connecting a variety of stakeholders through the production and dissemination of quality, non-partisan survey and policy research and leadership studies and training. We aim to equip students with research and analysis skills, provide scholars with an outlet for investigating important questions about governance and policy, and communicate with both public servants and citizens about policy issues, alternatives, and preferences. These goals reflect our belief that individuals across our community, state, and nation can improve governance and solve big problems by working together on a basis of mutual knowledge and understanding.
