Career Information
Internships are stepping-stones toward career goals. The semester-long experience serves as a major component on a resume. The intern acts as an employee for a corporation or organization, whether the intern is paid or not.
The difference between the intern and an employee, however, is that the experience within the corporation/organization is specialized because it is developed for the intern. Hence, it is imperative that the student applying for an internship position understand that application for an internship is similar to that for a “real” job.
The job will entail responsibilities in a specialized area, such as research at a museum, writing for a historical society, doing graphic design for a newspaper or acting as a docent for a tour organization. Again, while the job might not involve a paycheck, it will reap valuable rewards, such as career experience and recommendations.
At Edwards College, we take internships very seriously. We treat the internship opportunity and the student-intern connection as a serious endeavor. The objective always is for both the student-intern and the internship facility to have a good fit. The goal is for both to have a successful experience.
