The Director's Cup began at Coastal Carolina during the 1994-1995 school year and is a tool and award meant to increase
participation, reward sportsmanship, and recognize an All-Campus
Intramural Champion.
Each team will be awarded points based on the
system described on this page. The team with the most points is crowned "Coastal Intramural Champion". The team's name is engraved on the Director's Cup Trophy and displayed the following year at the Campus Recreation Center Front Desk.
Below are some commonly asked questions and explains the program:
What is it?
A year long points race, beginning in the fall semester and ending in
the spring semester, in which the same team and team members
participate together in IM Sports, earning points for
sportsmanship, participation, and winning, for the chance to be crowned
Intramural All-Campus Champions.
Who is Eligible?
a. Any team eligible for Intramural play is eligible to participate in
the Director's Cup race.
b. All eligibility rules for Intramurals apply.
Do we have to keep the same team name for each sport and semester?
Yes, to have your team's points count towards
a Director's Cup Championship, the team must keep the same team
name for each sport and semester in which they participate.
Is there a limit to the number of teams that a Director's Cup
team can enter an event?
Yes. Only one (1) team per group will count towards the Director's Cup standings. For instance, if Sigma Phi Epsilon has three flag football teams (A League, B League and Co-Rec), only one of those team's points will be counted. The captains of each of the teams can decide beforehand which of the team's points they would like to count.
In addition, for individual/dual sports, regardless of number of entries per group, only one (1) individual's or duo's results will count towards the championship.
How do I earn points?
Just participating earns points! However, for regular seasons wins, post-season wins, sportsmanship, and standings at the end of the season all are worth points to the championship.
Additionally, teams lose points for forfeits/no-shows, poor sportsmanship and ejections.
See the Cup Points Outline page for the entire breakdown of points.
Where and when will scores be posted?
Scores will be posted on www.coastal.edu/im and on the Intramural
bulletin board at the end of each sport's phase.
What do we win?
Each Intramural All-Campus Division Champion will have their name added
to the cup displayed in the Recreation Center. All rules are subject to change by the Assistant Director of Campus
Recreation.
