2006 Celebration of Inquiry Conference Committees

Executive Committee
Director, Charmaine Tomczyk; Honorary Co-Chairs, Joan Piroch, Sara Sanders
Purpose: To serve as spokespersons and advisors for the event and liaisons to campus administration on conference matters; to spearhead selection of and accommodations for keynote speakers; to monitor the conference budget; to apply for appropriate grant funding and seek private donations in coordination with the University Advancement Office; and to produce a final report of the event.

Steering Committee
Chair, Charmaine Tomczyk
Purpose: To serve as the coordinating body that monitors all other committee activities and troubleshoots conference issues, (This committee is comprised of the Chairs and Co-Chairs of the other conference committees.)

College Liaisons Committee
Chair, Carol Osborne and Crystal Edge
Purpose: To create conference subthemes that extend the theme to a wide range of disciplines; to excite their colleagues, their students, staff and community members in preparing presentation topics, particularly interdisciplinary topics in coordination with other colleges and groups; to review and approve all conference proposals submitted

Conference Communications Committee
Chair, Steve Sheel
Purpose: To format and produce the conference program; to develop the conference website (to include the program, committee work, application form for proposals, and other functions pertinent to conference information) to form a database of information from which to prepare the printed program and increase publicity; to publicize the conference to the campus and local communities, through print, media, billboard, etc.

Scheduling Committee
Co-Chairs, Micheline Brown and Judy Hawkins
Purpose: To assign rooms and times for all conference sessions with responsibilities for scheduling all events into appropriate-sized and equipped rooms with attention to subtheme tracks, concurrent sessions, equipment requests, and all other session information. The summation of the committee’s work is transferred electronically to the Conference Communications Committee for its preparation of the program (online and printed)

Logistics Committee
Chair, Richard Moore
Purpose: To enable the conference people and events to move smoothly; to arrange for all equipment and supplies needed during the days of the conference, such as information tables, and equipment delivery for conference sessions; to make printed programs available as early as possible to the campus community; to provide information assistance, transportation (trolley shuttle) and/or assistance for physically-challenged participants during the days of the conference; to maintain open communication through cell phones and/or other means with key conference personnel and information tables personnel; to review available parking for special groups with Campus Safety; to make evaluation forms available at all information tables to attendees during the conference and to collect evaluation results for transfer to the Office of the Institutional Research and Assessment for its evaluation and assessment.

Student and Alumni Involvement
Co-Chairs, Pat Singleton-Young
Purpose: To promote and provide maximum involvement of students and alumni; through presentations, panel discussions, performances, committee service, and conference assistance, including identifying and training student hosts

Receptions Committee
Chair, Geoff Parsons
Purpose: To organize all receptions and breaks throughout conference, including speakers luncheons, and arranging the culminating "High Tea" at the close of the conference; to reserve room for receptions and coordinate with AraMark food services; to arrange for music at receptions as needed.
