To help focus the theme, some points are:

• daily communication - cell phone use, robots, ipods, facebook, YouTube, TV
• business and marketing - using the above technologies for advertising, product development, personnel management
• relationships - personal and professional interactions, coping skills, worklife and workspace (Dilbertisms), telecommuting
• literature, film, and plays that depict the future or had predicted the future
• nostalgia and futurists - comparison of expectations and visions
• time crunching - multi-tasking, instant feedback, current and past public opinion surveys ("do Americans work too hard?" "Are most people lonely?" "What do we want in a leader?”)
• values and integrity - ethical issues for the 21st century (Reminder: the Freshmen Year Experience theme is INTEGRITY)
• transformations and transitions - discovering the whole person, the whole organization, the whole community
• environment - global warming, pollution of all kinds, endangered species, storm water issues, 
• contemporary politics - warfare and peace negotiations
