Program itinerary
Join Dr. Maria-Luisa Torres on CCU’s 25-day trip to Cuenca, Ecuador. This 25-day Spanish language experience will conclude with a five-day trip to the Amazon rain forest.
Spanish classes will be held Monday through Friday, except for those days on which excursions have been scheduled. Students will receive credit for SPAN350 for courses taught by Cuenca faculty. CCU faculty will teach Spanish 120 at an additional charge ($250 per credit). All classes will be taught at the Universidad de Cuenca Facultad de Filosofía; the Universidad is a partner institution of Coastal Carolina University.
Students will live with carefully selected host families and will be provided with three meals per day. Each student will be assigned a peer mentor, who is a university student and native-speaker of Spanish, to facilitate each Coastal student’s orientation to Cuenca and to enhance the overall experience.
While in Cuenca, students will participate in excursions to El Cajas National Park, the archeological site of Ingapirca, la Hacienda Totorillas, and the towns of Gaulaceo and Chordeleg.
Students will take SPAN120 with Coastal faculty and receive credit for SPAN350.
About Cuenca, Ecuador
Cuenca, the cultural capital of Ecuador, is its third largest city in terms of population, and is the capital of the Azuay Province. It is located in the Sierra, the highlands of Ecuador at about 2500m (8200 ft) above sea level. Cuenca enjoys a mild climate year round. The center of the city is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

(includes airfare, accommodations, meals, excursions, insurance and trip to the Amazon)
*The program cost does not include CCU tuition for SPAN120 ($250 per credit).
