How to Apply

The process for studying abroad differs depending on the type of program of interest.  There are 3 types of programs that students can apply for - Short-term Programs, Exchange Programs (Semester/Academic Year), and Third-Party Providers (both short-term and semester programs). 

Important Deadlines

  • Applications for Semester/Exchange Fall 2014 semester are due March 14, 2014. Applications for Spring 2015 semester are due October 15, 2014.
  • Applications for Short-Term/Maymester 2014 are due November 1, 2013 (priority deadline) and November 30, 2013 (normal deadline).

Semester/Academic Year Exchange Application Process

Below are the key steps each student must take to apply for Coastal's exchange programs.

  1. Learn specific details and requirements about the program by visiting the following webpage: click hereStudents can find detailed information the programs. 

  2. (Optional) Meet with Ms. Lori Patterson to discuss any questions or concerns about which program to apply for. Ms. Lori Patterson is CCU’s study abroad advisor and is available to discuss options based on each student's academic plans.  Ms. Patterson holds office hours every day during the academic year, and students are seen on a first come, first serve basis.  Her office is located in Singleton Building 119 and her office hours are Monday through Friday from 11-1pm and 3-4:30pm.

  3. Apply online. You can find the link to the online application at the following link: click here. If you have questions or concerns about the online application, contact Ms. Lori Patterson - Coastal's Study Abroad Advisor - in the Office of International Programs and Services in Singleton 119 or email her at email lori@coastal.edu.  

    Be prepared to supply the following information at the time you apply:
    - Statement of purpose (a Word document or PDF)
    - An academic reference
    - Copy of your transcript
    - A health form and participation fitness certification

  4. Follow up with Ms. Patterson to ensure course enrollment, housing, and other important details. 

Maymester/Short-Term Program Application Process

Below are the key steps each student must take to apply for Coastal's short-term programs.

  1. Learn specific details and requirements about the program by visiting the following webpage: click hereStudents can find detailed information about itinerary, courses offered, course requirements, faculty leaders, and costs of the program.

  2. Apply online. You can find the link to the online application at the following link: click here. If you have questions or concerns about the online application, contact Ms. Lori Patterson - Coastal's Study Abroad Advisor - in the Office of International Programs and Services in Singleton 119 or email her at email lori@coastal.edu.  
    Be prepared to supply the following information at the time you apply:

    - Statement of purpose (a Word document or PDF)
    - An academic reference
    - Copy of your transcript
    - A health form and participation fitness certification

  3. Pay $500 deposit to Student Accounts. Once you have submitted your application, you must pay a deposit of $500. Only after you have submitted your application and deposit, will faculty members review your application for final acceptance. Ms. Patterson will send an email notifying you of the status of your application. (Refund policy:  If after submitting your application and paying the $500 deposit, you are not accepted into the program, your deposit will be refunded within two weeks.) 

  4. Sign your acceptance letter.  Once notified, visit the Office of International Programs & Services in Singleton 119 to sign your acceptance letter.

  5. To finalize participation, you are responsible for paying program fees within the deadlines established. 

    Please note: If Coastal Carolina University finds it necessary to cancel the program, all payments made will be refunded.  In the event the participant finds it necessary to cancel, we will make every effort to refund monies paid, less the $500 deposit and any funds already committed to vendors for the program.
