Oxford, England
2011 Summer II Study Abroad Opportunity

Coastal@Oxford

This Summer II program is based at Great Britain's oldest university taking full advantage of Oxford's central location and cultural resources. Accommodations and most meals will be provided by Queen's College founded in the 14th century. This mediaeval town had its beginnings in the 10th century and is home to beautiful gardens, colleges and churches. Quaint shops, cobblestone lanes, broad meadows and pebble paths provide opportunities for exploration and reflection. While in Oxford students will participate in day trips to locations such as Bath, Salisbury, Blenheim Palace and Stratford-upon-Avon. Visits to London will include Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, the Tower of London, Westminster Abbey and St. Paul's Cathedral. For more than ten years Coastal has been taking students to Oxford. This year's selection of English and Politics courses offers an academically stimulating experience that will illuminate key elements of British culture. Participants will discover the ways in which governmental systems, political institutions, and forms of cultural expression are interdependent and geographically specific as they visit historically significant sites and explore how literary movements and political values have changed over time.
