Graduating Senior Exit Survey 

The Graduating Senior Exit Survey, an internally designed tool, garners the views and experiences of the graduating students. The survey is administered to those who have applied for graduation.

Due to impending weather conditions Coastal Carolina University has enacted the Severe Weather Plan for the upcoming Commencement ceremonies this weekend. 

How do I know if my son/daughter is graduating? 

Your child will need to check their status with either their designated adviser or the Office of the Registrar.


To be eligible for graduation, you must meet all course requirements, all "in residence" requirements, and all departmental or program requirements. Have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 on all work attempted at Coastal Carolina University. Have earned the minimum hours as determined by the degree (120 earned hours minimum). If you have received a grade of I (Incomplete) for any of your classes for the current term (or have an "I" from a previous term), you must have completed all coursework and turned it in to the instructor by the end of the term. If not, you will be denied graduation and will have to reapply for graduation for a future term.  


To be eligible for graduation, you must meet all course requirements, meet all program requirements, have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on all graduate work attempted at Coastal Carolina University and have earned the minimum hours as determined by the degree (30 hours minimum). 


Do students have to apply for graduation? 

Students do have to apply for graduation, and the grad application can be found on the Office of the Registrar's website

Undergraduate Application:

You must complete the Degree Application form, and must submit a separate degree application form for each degree. Have your adviser complete the Degree Certification form and have it signed by your adviser and the department chair of your major. If applicable, have your adviser complete the Minor Certification form and have it signed by your adviser and the department chair of your minor. All forms must be submitted to the Office of the Dean of your college along with a $35 application fee receipt no later than the deadline set in the Academic Calendar. Applications submitted after the deadline are subject to an additional late fee. All payments should be made to the Office of Student Accounts. After submission of your application, any information changes (such as mailing address or name changes prior to graduation), please notify the Office of the Registrar and specifically ask that your diploma name and /or mailing address be changed. If any coursework listed on your Degree Certificate changes after submission of your application, please notify your adviser and ask him/her to notify the Office of the Registrar as soon as possible.     

Graduate Application:

You must complete the Graduate Degree Application form, and submit a separate graduate degree application for each degree. Complete the accompanying Graduate Degree Certification form(s) and have it approved by your adviser, the graduate coordinator/director of your program and the Dean of the College. You must pay the $25 application fee in the Office of Student Accounts. Obtain and keep your receipt. All forms, including your receipt for the application fee, must be submitted to the Office of the Dean no later than the last day to apply for graduation given on the  Academic Calendar. Applications submitted after the deadline are subject to an additional late fee. If any information changes on your application or certification it is your responsibility to notify the Office of the Registrar as soon as possible. 


I will be finishing up my degree requirements next semester. Can I participate in this year's graduation ceremony?

A degree candidate is not eligible to participate in a commencement ceremony that is earlier than the final semester the candidate will complete his/her degree requirements:

  • Fall semester candidates are eligible to participate in the December Commencement Ceremony.
  • Spring semester candidates are eligible to participate in the May Commencement Ceremony. 
  • Summer semester candidates (May, Summer I, Summer II) are eligible to participate in the August Commencement Ceremony. Summer semester candidates are not eligible to participate in the May Commencement Ceremony.  


Where and when do I get my cap and gown? 

Graduates can purchase regalia at the Chanticleer Store. If you have any questions regarding regalia for Commencement, please contact the Chanticleer Store  at (843) 349-2360, located on 104 Founders Drive in the HTC Center. 


How do I order my Honor Stole?

The academic honor stole is a white satin stole that bears the University seal on one side and your Latin academic honors or program recognitions in script on the other side. Both the seal and script are custom embroidered. To be eligible to wear an academic honor stole for graduation you must have earned a minimum 3.50 GPA, have completed at least 60 hours of my college coursework here at CCU and be graduating with a Bachelor's degree (Graduate students are not eligible for Latin Academic Honors). Graduate candidates who are memebers of the following programs may also be eligible to receive an honor stole: Honors Program, Jackson Scholar, Wall Fellow or Swain Scholar. 

All students who meet the minimum GPA requirement and the 60 hour requirement will receive an email from Dr. Tankersley notifying them of eligibility. If you did NOT receive this email and believe that you might be eligible, please contact Ms. Stacy Wyeth (swyeth@coastal.edu) in the Registrar's Office.

Stoles with one script are $45. Each additional script is an additional $5. 

To order your honor stole, please visit coastal.edu/odk and complete the online order form. Pay online via debit or credit card. If you prefer to pay in cash or check, you can submit payment to ODK's faculty advisor (Brittain Hall 340).

When the honor stoles are ready, you will receive an email from ODK faculty advisor, Dr. Tankersley (htankers@coastal.edu), giving you the pick-up day, time and location. However, note that stoles are generally distributed during the Monday - Friday just preceeding Commencement. Please bring a picture ID with you to pick-up your stole. 


summa cum laude:  GPA of 4.0


magna cum laude: GPA of 3.75 to 3.999


cum laud: GPA of 3.5 to 3.749

When do I get my diploma? 

Diplomas are not distributed on Commencement day but are mailed later to the address that the graduate specified on their grad application.   


Are tickets required? 

Severe Weather Plan Tickets: The same general admission ticket for Brooks Stadium will serve as the severe weather plan ticket for the HTC Center. The severe weather plan ticket can only be used during the college ceremony specified on the ticket. General admission tickets are required for the ceremony at the HTC Center, seating is offered on a first-come, first-served basis, and graduates will be allowed up to (8) eight tickets each.

There will be a live feed of the ceremony available for viewing in Wheelwright Auditorium for guests who do not have tickets to the ceremony. Wheelwright Auditorium is located on the campus of Coastal Carolina University at 108 Spadoni Park Circle right next to the bell tower. Also, the main ceremony will be broadcasted live on the Internet, accessible through this website. 


If I am not on campus this semester, then how do I get my tickets for the ceremony? 

If you are unable to pick up you commencemnet tickets in person, please email the following information to boxoffice@coastal.edu:

    - Name
    - Student ID Number
    - Address (please list the address where you would like the commencement tickets to be sent
    - Major
    - Telephone Number 
    - Number of Tickets Requested 


When should I arrive on Commencement Day?

Graduates: Graduates are to arrive at the HTC Center one hour prior to the start of their College's Ceremony (Please enter at Gate 3 - back corner entrance of the HTC Center) to prepare for the ceremony. Please arrive dressed in your regalia as time will be limited. Valuables/purses should not be brought with you as there is no secure storage available. Graduates must make prior arrangements to get tickets to guests. Parking will be across from the track; follow the posted signs (Graduate Parking).

Guests: HTC Center will open one hour prior to the start of the individual College's Ceremony. 


Will there be reserved seating for guests that need special assistance?

At the ceremony, there is seating reserved for guests with wheelchairs. Because space is limited, we can only allow one escort per special needs guest. This area, like all commencement guest seating, is first-come, first-served. For questions regarding special seating you may contact the Wheelwright Box Office at 843-349-2787.


How long does the ceremony last? 

The ceremony should last approximately one and a half hours. To ensure a quick and safe exit, graduates are urged to make arrangements before Commencement to meet family and friends after the ceremony at a designated location.
