* These guidelines pertain to all University, College and Department Web sites. Organization or personal sites are not bound to these guidelines but must still adhere to Marketing Communications guidelines for logo and photo usage found at www.coastal.edu/universitycommunication/marketing.

Header

 

  • Header must include an official Coastal Carolina University Banner developed by Marketing Communications. Templates will be available for download from www.coastal.edu/universitycommunication/marketing.
  • Banners must include an official Coastal Logo (left) and an appropriate College or Department Logo (right) developed by Marketing Communications.
  • Banner must include the following code just below the opening body tag:

Footer

  • Footer must include the following code above the closing body tag:

    include("ccufooter.html") ;
    ?>

Name & Title

  • File names must use .html extension, not .htm.
  • File names must use lower-case characters only.
  • File names must exclude spaces or illegal characters (&, %, etc.)
  • <Title> tag must include university, college or department name.

Color

  • CCU colors are:

Teal - #007073

Bronze - #916B4A

  • Content design themes must emphasize Teal as dominant, with Black and Bronze as secondary.

Background

  • Background must provide sufficient color contrast to content.
  • White is strongly preferred.

Dimensions

  • Minimum target screen display resolution: 800 x 600 pixels.
  • Content must not exceed 800 pixels in width to ensure consistent printing.

Text

  • Arial, Verdana, sans-serif font.
  • Black is strongly preferred for body text.
  • CCU Teal is strongly preferred for link text.
  • Associated Press (AP) Standards for page text. Specifically, use
    • "e-mail" instead of “email, "E-mail," etc.
    • "online" instead of "on-line"
    • "non-credit" instead of "noncredit"
    • "Web site" instead of "web site" or "website"

Site Theme

  • Sub pages must follow a common content Design Theme based on the site's home page.

Navigation

  • Sub pages must link to site home page.
  • The use of breadcrumbs is strongly preferred.
  • For navigation links, CSS hover effects are strongly preferred to image rollovers.
  • Links to internal web sites must be relative links, either to the web root or the web page.NEW
  • Links to external web sites must open in a separate window.

Images

  • Any use of photographs must adhere to Marketing Communications guidelines.

Accessibility

  • Pages should support accessibility by screenreaders and other non-standard web browsers.
  • Image references should include meaningful <ALT> tags.

Content

  • Content must be as accurate and current as possible.
  • No dead links.

Oversight

  • Departments are responsible for ensuring site compliance with University Web Design Standards.
