The upgrade has been successfully completed, tested, and ready for deployment. On May 31, 2011 at 5:00 p.m., ITS has scheduled a cut-over to the new Avaya Modular Messaging System (Voice Mail). Users will need to make sure they retrieve all messages, if any, from the old system by 5:00 p.m. on May 31. After the cut-over, users will access the new voice mail by dialing the extension ‘6500’ (as before); however, they need to use the initial access code of '2580' to change their access code and to re-record any desired greetings on the new system (users should follow the Editorial and Graphic Standards, found under the University’s Marketing web site, when recording new greetings). Users who have the Avaya Modular Messaging Clients installed on their computers will no longer need these clients and the IRCs will help remove them. ITS Staff members will closely work with departments who have general telephone numbers (e.g. Admissions, Registrar’s) to ensure a successful deployment.  Old voice mail messages will be available for retrieval until June 10th, 2011. Old messages can be retrieved by dialing the extension ‘2555’ after 5:00 p.m. on May 31st, 2011. Why the upgrade? The old Avaya system is no longer eligible for support. Feature enhancements of voice mail access. Who is affected? Faculty and staff members who currently have active voice messaging capabilities (the recipients of this e-mail message). Who is not affected? 3COM telephone users at the BCMW Center and the Testing Center users at the Foundation Center. What are the benefits of the newly upgraded Avaya Voice System? Immediate benefit: the full integration into MS Exchange (messages are accessed from both the voice mail and e-mail accounts). Future benefit: flexibility in managing own voice mail accounts via the web.  Questions, concerns, or related issues can be directed to the designated IRCs, ITS Front Desk at Ext. 2084, or John Hanna at Ext.2150.... http://www.coastal.edu/its/newsDetails.html?x=20 Tue, 24 May 2011 10:17:53 EDT Web Group Receives Praise Associate Provost, Barbara Buckner and her assessment endeavors at Coastal Carolina University were highlighted in an article published today in Campus Technology (the only monthly publication focusing exclusively on the use of technology across all areas of higher education). Powered by Google, the new system provides robustness, high storage capacity, and several online collaborative features. In addition to e-mail, CCUApps provides multiple online tools that allow the students to do their academic work more conveniently. These tools of web-based messaging and collaboration applications, hosted by Google and administered by ITS, include Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Docs, Google Talk, and more. Effective Tuesday, January 18th, all students will officially begin using the new system to send and receive University e-mail. Students will continue to have access to the old e-mail system for a period of 60 days after January 18th to retrieve old messages or to transfer old e-mail messages to the new system if needed. Will faculty and staff be affected? No. the new system is for students and will NOT affect the e-mail system for faculty and staff or the way faculty, staff, and departments deliver e-mail to students. Faculty, staff, and departments will continue to communicate with the students the same as before. When can the students use the new system? Effective Tuesday, January 18th, all incoming and outgoing student e-mail will be conducted via the new system. How will the students access the new system? Students will be directed accordingly via the appropriate web links. Once accounts are activated on Tuesday, January 18th 2011, students will immediately begin receiving new e-mail messages in Gmail, and they should use Gmail to both send and receive e-mail. Will the old e-mail system still be available for access? Yes. The old e-mail system will be available for a period of 60 days after the activation of the new e-mail to allow the students to transfer old messages to the new system. Will usernames and passwords change? No. Students will continue to use the normally issued usernames and passwords to access the new system. Will the students e-mail address change? Although the physical e-mail address for students will change from username@coastal.edu to mailto:username@coastal.edu, e-mails sent to username@coastal.edu will continue to be delivered. For example, a message sent to student janendoe@coastal.edu or to janedoe@g.coastal.edu will be delivered successfully. This measure will ensure the non-interruption of e-mails sent by professors, staff, or departments. Is there anything the students need to do to prepare for the process? No. When the new system becomes active on Tuesday, January 18th, students may want to transfer old e-mails to the new system or re-configure their mobile devices to connect to the new system. Instructions and support will be provided. Where can the students get more information about CCUApps? For more information about CCUApps, students can go to http://www.coastal.edu/its/ccuapps. In addition, ITS – Student Computing Services will be providing a series of workshops on CCUApps throughout the semester.
