Kimbel Library Services: Success Stories

Critical Thinking...

Instructors at Coastal Carolina University are dedicated to teaching students critical thinking skills. Finding quality, peer-reviewed materials during the research process is crucial in establishing a strong foundation for this critical thinking. Ryan Shelley, an instructor in the English Department at Coastal Carolina University, notes that students often have trouble making the jump from high school to college, where research methods become much more demanding and complex. Kimbel Library offers library instruction sessions to aid freshmen in this transition.

To schedule a library instruction session please fill out our Library Instruction Request Form. The Information Literacy librarians at Kimbel Library can teach on a variety of subjects to suit the various needs of university instructors.

As a teacher of First-Year Composition, I work to help incoming students become more sophisticated researchers. Kimbel Library provides the resources and services to help me better meet the research needs of my writing students.

To a student fresh out of high school, walking into a university library can be a strange and even intimidating experience. The Library Instruction Sessions at Kimbel Library have always played a big role in helping my freshmen make this tough transition from high school to college-level research methods. The instruction sessions give students guided, hands-on experience with effective search strategies for navigating through the wealth of materials the library has to offer.
