Kimbel Library's computer use policy

These computers are provided for the use of Coastal Carolina University students, faculty, and staff for the purpose of academic research.

CCU students, faculty, and staff wishing to use these computers for research purposes will be given preference over all other users, including those using personal e-mail accounts. The Library reserves the right to limit the amount of time an individual user can devote to a single session. A one (1) hour time limit is in effect for users not affiliated with Coastal Carolina University.

Access by Minors:
Full Internet access is available in Kimbel Library via its public access computers. Parents or legal guardians must assume responsibility for deciding what library resources and Internet Web sites are appropriate for their own children. Parents or legal guardians should guide their children in the use of the Internet and inform them about materials they should not use. The Library does not monitor or control information accessible through the Internet and is not responsible for its content, for changes in content of the sources to which the Library home pages link, or the content of sources accessed through secondary links.

Rules governing use:

Users may not:
  • Load any software on these computers, either via diskette, CD-ROM, or download.
  • Access web sites displaying information or material in violation of Article 3 of Chapter 15 of Title 16 of the Code of Laws of South Carolina (http://www.scstatehouse.net/code/t16c015.htm), or display sites that create a “hostile environment” for other users of the library.
  • Invade the privacy of others.
  • Engage in any activity that is harassing or defamatory.
  • Use the Internet for any illegal activity, including the violation of copyright laws.
  • Alter in any way the appearance of screens, backgrounds, or wallpaper on these computers.
  • Make any attempt to damage computer hardware or software.
  • Use these computers to disseminate advertising or for any other commercial use.
