Background:
The Center was established in 2004 in honor of Mary Emily and Nelson Jackson of Myrtle Beach, SC. The Center serves as a leader in cultivating and promoting an awareness of the importance and effectiveness of personal and professional integrity. The goals of the Jackson Center at Coastal Carolina University include:
- Cultivating an awareness of the importance and lifelong rewards of personal and professional integrity, to include organizing forums for public discussion of ethical issues in science, business, education, the arts, and the humanities that will inform, challenge, and engage the university and the wider community, and
- Providing resources for the academic and wider communities that are both philosophical and practical, which promote reflection, discussion and resolution of ethical challenges in a systematic and responsible way.
In order to achieve these goals, the Jackson Center was designed with Four Cornerstones, including the Jackson Scholars, Jackson Junior Scholars, the Jackson Visiting Ethicist, and the Jackson Resource Center.
