Keyword searching: Academic Search Premier as example
- Select Academic Search Premier from the list of indexes.
- Enter appropriate search terms.
- To limit the results to full-text, enter a check in the Full-text limiter box.
Journal title searching: Academic Search Premier as example
- Under the "Basic search" tab, choose "Publications"
- In the "browse publications" field, enter the name of the publication. (Not this is the second field on the screen,
do not enter the publication name in the "Find" field that appears above it.)
- Click the journal title name.
- Select the year and issue to browse publications, or select "Search within this publication" to limit the search to
only that journal.
Setting up a personal profile: Academic Search Premier as example
An EBSCOhost account can be created so that you can take advantage of saving searches and favorite journals and creating alerts
for articles of interest.
- Select Academic Search Premier from the list of databases
- Click on "Sign In to My EBSCOhost" at the top left of screen.
- Click on "I'm a new user"
- Follow onscreen instructions to create an account.
Journal Alert: Academic Search Premier as example
This option will send an e-mail notification every time a new issue of a selected journal is available online. You must have set
up a personal account on EBSCOhost before using this feature.
- Select Academic Search Premier from the list of indexes.
- Sign into EBSCOhost by clicking "Sign In to My EBSCOhost" at top left of screen. (Follow the online instructions)
- Follow above instructions for searching for a journal title.
- Click on Journal Name
- Click on "Journal Alert" at upper left.
- Select options for the alert and click "Save"
Linking to full-text: Academic Search Premier as example
Academic Search Premier provides a readily-available link to the full-text article in the index record. (If only a PDF copy of
the article is available, then the link will point to the citation, which will have a link to the PDF copy.)
- When viewing the information about the article, including the citation, abstract, and subject terms, check for a field called
"Persistent link to this record".
- Copy the link, and paste to document or website for student access
Linking to searches: Academic Search Premier as example
A permanent link to the search is also available in EBSCO's Academic Search Premier.
- While on the search-results page, look for a link called "Display Link to this Search" in the upper right. Click
this link.
- A text-box will appear with the appropriate URL. Copy this URL.
- Paste URL to the document or web-page.
Saving searches and search alerts: Academic Search Premier as example
This option is available to users who have set up a personal account with EBSCOHost.
- Select Academic Search Premier from the list of indexes.
- Sign into EBSCOhost by clicking "Sign In to My EBSCOhost" at top left of screen. (Follow the online instructions)
- Make sure that you are using the "Advanced search" option. Enter appropriate search criteria for articles run the search.
- Click "Search History/Alerts" tab.
- Check the box next to the search to be saved.
- Click "Save searches/alerts".
- Assign a name and description (if needed) to your search, and then click "save".
     o To save the search as an alert, change from change "Save search as" from "permanent
search" to "alert".
     o When you save as an alert, you will be asked for additional information about scheduling the alert
(frequency, e-mail address)
To access a saved search:
- Select Academic Search Premier from the list of indexes.
- Sign into EBSCOhost by clicking "Sign In to My EBSCOhost" at top left of screen. (Follow the online instructions)
- Click "Search History/Alerts" tab.
- Click "Retrieve searches" (or "Retrieve alerts" for saved alerts).
- Click ""Retrieve saved search" under the search that is needed.
- Click on "Rerun" to run the search, or "Revise" to make changes to the search.
