Internet Evaluation Criteria

[ Internet Resources ] [ News Sources ] [ Search engines ] [ Tips & Techniques ]

The Internet is a very valuable research tool, if the Internet Realities are recognized. To ensure that you have found a site that is accurate and reliable, take a few seconds to look through the site using these criteria:

Authority:
What are the author's qualifications?
Who is the publisher/source?
What is their affiliation?

Accuracy:
How reliable and free from errors is the information?
What audience is the information written for?

Objectivity:
Is the information presented with a bias?
Is the bias evident or hidden?

Currency:
How up to date is the information?
What are the dates the site was mounted, revised?

Coverage:
What is covered on the site?
How in-depth is the information?
How does the Internet coverage differ from print coverage?

Based on Jane Alexander and Marsha Tate's:
"Teaching Critical Evaluation Skills for World Wide Web Resources."
