| What
About Bob?
“You
dummy! That was Squatriglia’s house!” one
student to another after figuring out they had looted
the exterior of the vice president of Student Affairs’ home
in search of Christmas decorations for their residence
hall room.
– (The students involved shall remain nameless.)
Joe Mazurkiewicz and Squatriglia share a special moment |
“I consider him one of my best friends. The stories Bob and I have, I better
keep to myself. We play golf together, and we do fine until we get in sight of
his house. Then we have to run in and get some cold refreshment. Sometimes we
come back and finish that hole, and sometimes not… The good Lord makes
good people, but when it comes to people like Betty and Bob, they’re kind
of scarce.”
– George Williams
friend and former Board of Trustee member
“I considered him my mentor when I was a student and worked for student
activities. He had an open door policy and was easy to talk to. On many occasions
I would ask for his help … I felt very fortunate to have had such a kind,
well thought of person guiding and advising me.”
– Porter Medley
Director of Conference Services
“He took the time to teach me. Most people don’t do that. He used
to joke and say he was the university trainer. ‘I train them so well that
everybody else wants them,’ he would say. And that was pretty much true.
He has been great with students, too, helping them through lots of tears; he
was always there for them. We will miss him.”
– Debbie Conner
Assistant Vice President of Community Relations/Special Events
"He
is a great example of how one person can make a difference
in the life of another and perhaps
not even be aware of it. I suspect that is
why we
both
do this work. For his example, I am profoundly grateful."
– W. Samuel Sadler
Vice President for Student Affairs, College of William & Mary
"I
was truly a directionless, immature kid when he took
me under his wing in the late ’70s. His belief
in me and encouragement to help start up ODK was the
kick-start I needed to pursue leadership opportunities
in the USAF. It’s
hard to measure in words the effect he had on my life. Knowing I’m
just one person, I can hardly imagine the number of young folks he
has similarly guided
throughout these past 26 years. I’m very grateful to have been
a part of his flock."
– Frank Tomko
Class of 1980, Col.,USAF (ret)
"During
his career at CCU, he understood and valued the importance
of the student body. He always
stood in favor of what was best for us
and pushed
us to our
fullest potential both in and out of the classroom and, even more
importantly, in life."
– Michelle L. Ward
Class of 2002
