Men's
soccer team recognized for academic performance
Coastals mens soccer team earned Academic
All-America honors from the National Soccer Coaches
Association of America. For the 2000 fall semester the
Chanticleers posted a 3.23 grade point average, which
ranks second in the nation to the University of Pennsylvanias
3.28.

soccer team earns national recognition in inaugural
season

Coastals
inaugural womens soccer team received national recognition
when Soccer Buzz magazine released its annual national
awards. Freshman Marissa Kovacs, the Big South Rookie
of the Year, was named the National Player and Rookie
of the Year for first year programs. Also, forwards Tiffany
Turner and Kristen Wisse joined Kovacs on the All-National
Team for first year programs. Coastal finished the season
with an overall record of 5-7-1 and in a tie for third
place in the conference standings.
Each
year Soccer Buzz magazine honors new soccer programs.
There were nine first-year programs during the 2000
season.

Lambert
named Academic All-American
Jeanne Lambert, a junior on Coastals volleyball
team, was named to the 2000 Verizon Academic All-America
University Division Womens Volleyball Team, which
is selected by the College Sports Information Directors
of America (CoSIDA).

Lambert,
a native of Burnsville, Minn., is a proven leader at
Coastal both on the court and in the classroom. As a
double major in biology and business management, Lambert
carries a perfect 4.0 grade point average. She has been
named to the Verizon All-America All-District Team for
the past two seasons and is a two-time member of the
Big South Conference Presidential Honor Roll and Coastals
Presidential Honor Roll. She was also selected as the
Big Souths Scholar-Athlete of the Year in volleyball.
On
the court, Lambert led the Chanticleers to an 18-14
overall record and a second-place conference finish.
She led the team in kills (389) and digs (433). She
led the Big South in digs for the third consecutive
season and already ranks first all-time in Coastal history
for digs (1,319) and third in kills (1,040).

Basketball
players earn Big South Conference's top honor

The
two best basketball players in the Big South Conference
during the 2000-2001 season were Coastal players. Junior
Torrey Butler garnered the mens Player of the Year
award, while senior Brooke Weisbrod was selected the womens
Player of the Year.

Butler,
a native of Baltimore, also earned Honorable Mention
All-America honors from the Associated Press after leading
the Big South in scoring with 19.4 points per game.
He also ranked third nationally in 3-point field goal
percentage at 47.6 percent and was named First Team
All-Conference.
Weisbrod,
a native of Cincinnati, proved to be a true student-athlete
as she also earned the Big South Scholar-Athlete of
the Year honor. She led the Big South in scoring with
19.7 points per game and set Coastals career steals
record with 281.
