Franklin Burroughs
Coastal Trustee H. Franklin Burroughs of the Burroughs Law Firm
The Burroughs Law Firm has made a $45,000 donation to Coastal’s NCAA I-AA football program, scheduled to begin competition in fall 2003. Architectural designs are being drawn for a new on-campus football stadium and athletic facility at the corner of University Boulevard and Highway 544.

“Coastal football will have a big impact on Horry County and beyond,” says H. Franklin Burroughs ’84, a Conway attorney and founder of the Burroughs Law Firm. “Alumni interest in the university will increase because of football and I am really excited about that prospect. The generation of positive energy as a result of the football program is going to be felt throughout the entire region.”

Burroughs’ gift is the largest from a Coastal alumnus to date in support of the football program. A past chairman of Coastal’s Board of Trustees, Burroughs earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Coastal in 1984 and a juris doctor degree from the University of South Carolina in 1987.

Selma Graham and her family have established a Charitable Lead Annuity Trust which names Coastal as one of its beneficiaries. Annual payments will be made through the trust and will be applied toward the construction of a campus bell tower.

The Ocean View Memorial Foundation has approved a grant to provide an information kiosk in the new University Hall on campus. The kiosk will feature an interactive computer monitor, projection screen and speaker equipment to provide state-of-the-art video and surround-sound audio. The kiosk will be designed to be used by visitors to the campus, particularly prospective students.

The Ocean View grant also includes funds to support the costs of providing cultural events and Lifelong Learning Society programs.

Elizabeth K. (Betsy) Puskar, associate professor of psychology and sociology at Coastal, has established a student research fund through her will. Puskar’s gift will provide funding to support a variety of undergraduate research projects for students majoring in psychology.

Judy W. Vogt, director of admissions and financial aid at Coastal, and her husband Robert Vogt have established a Student Admissions Counselor Scholarship to be awarded to a student who has served a minimum of one year as a student admissions counselor. Preference will be given to students who live on campus.
