J. Forrest Rhemann Jr. is president and CEO of Petroleum Equipment Company in Richland Miss., one of the largest distributors for fueling equipment in the Southeast. He has served on advisory boards with Tokheim Corporation and Schulumberger RPS, and serves on the board of directors of Rankin First Economic Development Authority.

1977
Effridge “Epp” Lee lives in North Myrtle Beach with his wife Dona and their 10-year-old daughter Deven. Epp is a sales executive for Centex Homes at Barefoot Resort and Golf in North Myrtle Beach.

1979
Gregory Blanton is the assistant chief magistrate for Horry County and municipal court judge for Surfside Beach and Briarcliffe Acres.

U.S. Marine Capt. Mark A. Singleton
has been assigned to the billet of the JFK SPEC Warfare Center at Fort Bragg, N.C. He is the first senior artillery officer to be selected for this assignment.

1982
Leonardo Nakayama
completed his master’s of international business degree at the University of South Carolina. He is assistant manager in the planning division for Jigen International, Inc. Leonard and his wife Eliane live in Tokyo, Japan, and have a daughter, Gracielle.

Mary Manard Reed is the motion picture marketing manager for Eastman Kodak Company. She and her husband Michael have two sons, Zachary and Nicholas, and live in Rochester, N.Y.

1985
Cerda Ricardo
completed his master’s degree in computer science at Cleveland State University. He and his wife Barbara live in Santiago, Chile, and have twin daughters, Sofia Alejandra and Gabriela Lucia.

1986
David Wray Helms
attended the University of South Carolina and Arkansas graduate schools. He is an assistant coach at Clemson University in the strength, speed and conditioning department.

1987
Gary Purinton
completed his master’s degree in education at Converse College in Spartanburg. He is the technology coordinator for Cherokee County School District. He and his wife, Connie Metts Purinton ’87, live in Gaffney and have a daughter, Sarah Wilson, born Dec. 3, 2001.

1988
Diana Parker Santoro
recently received a national high pass rating on her doctoral comprehensive examination. She is working toward a Ph.D. at Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and should graduate in September 2002. Also, she is a current Mrs. Florida 2001 and Mrs. North America 2002.

Fred Williams
completed his bachelor’s degree in pharmacy at the University of South Carolina in 1991. He works in medical information for Glaxo-SmithKline at Research Triangle Park, N.C.

is the assistant vice president for Pershing, a division of CSFB in Jersey City, N.J. He and his wife Patricia have a daughter, Katherine Grace, born Sept. 18, 2001.

Darren Gore
completed his master’s degree in business administration at Winthrop University. He is the director of operations and planning for the Horry County Solid Waste Authority in Conway. He and his wife Kimberly have two children, Cole and Caroline.

Julie Grimmett is a legal assistant for Funk & Bolton, P.A., in Baltimore, Md. She and her husband, David Haber, have a daughter, Holly Elizabeth, born Aug. 2, 2001.

Paula Chestnut Johnson is the program coordinator for home health care services at the Department of Health and Environmental Control. She and her husband, Norton Johnson ’94, live in Myrtle Beach. Norton is owner of Johnson Furniture and Manufacturing in Myrtle Beach.

Angela Shirley-Young is a stream monitoring coordinator for the North Chickamauga Creek Conservancy in Chattanooga, Tenn. She and her husband David live in Rising Fawn, Ga.

is a network administrator at Loris Health- care System in Loris.

Alexander Klein completed his master’s degree in international commerce at George Mason University. He is a manager for Nextel Communications in Reston, Va. He and his wife Lori have a daughter, Marissa.

Patrick Lange is a commander in the U.S. Army in Stuttgart, Germany.

Kent Adkisson
is a healthcare associate for KPMG Corp- orate Finance, LLC, in Atlanta. He and his wife Lisa live in Roswell, Ga.

Paula Sebastian Johnson is a claims representative for State Farm Insurance in Myrtle Beach. She and her husband Todd live in Murrells Inlet.

Matthew Lung completed his juris doctorate at Wake Forest Law School in May 1999. He is an attorney at Womble, Carlyle, Sandridge and Rice in Durham, N.C.

Melissa McCloud completed a master’s degree in education at Cambridge College in spring 2000 and a master’s degree in administration and supervision at the University of South Carolina in spring 2001. She is the assistant principal at Homewood Elementary in Conway.

Richard Zecchino completed his juris doctorate at Michigan State University.

Jason Chevallard
and his wife Janet recently settled in Delaware, Ohio. He works in the environmental laboratory for Burgess and Niple, Ltd.

Jennifer Derbyshire completed her master’s degree in education at the University of Saint Francis. She is a guidance counselor at Heritage Jr./Sr. High School in Monroeville, Ind.

Christine Bolesta Dodd and her husband John live in Winchester, Mass. They have a daughter, Haley Frances.

Brad Coletti is a lieutenant with the U.S. Navy and lives in Norfolk, Va.

completed her master’s degree at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science at the College of William and Mary. She is a research specialist at the University of South Carolina’s Baruch Marine Lab in Georgetown.

Carrie Cerny is the special event coordinator at Reston Town Center in Reston, Va. She is enrolled in the Event Management Certification program at George Washington University in Washington, D.C.

Jeremy Eason is a director of business relations at MyMed-Mart.com in Webster City, Iowa. He and his wife Richelle have a son, Jake.

Hope Simmons Gasque completed her bachelor’s degree in nursing at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

Lea Mikolajczweski Fitzpatrick is a teacher at Oak Crest High School in Mays Landing, N.J. She and her husband Thomas live in Berlin, N.J.

Mary Heather Hopkins and her husband, Jason Allen, live in Myrtle Beach and have a daughter, Mary Madelyn.

Richard Bamberger
is an education program director at the Marine Environmental Research Institute in Blue Hill, Maine. He and his wife, Tonya Hamby ’98, have a son, William Quint, born Aug. 23, 2001.

Jenny Cerny Boulware completed her master’s degree in public history at the University of South Carolina in 2000. She has served as executive director of Main Street Laurens USA for the past two years. She was married in May 2001 to Tyler Wesley Boulware.

Tara Jean Britt is in her final year at the University of Pennsylvania, where she is earning a degree in veterinary medicine.

Allison Byars is an assistant director of admissions at Coastal Carolina University.

Heather Johnson studied fisheries management at Deakin University in Warrnambool, Victoria, Australia for a year. She is an aquarist at the National Aquarium in Baltimore.

Janice Lambert is a registered representative with Raymond James Financial Services, Inc., in Pawleys Island.

Martha B. Thomas
’74 (faculty) of Conway - Sept. 7, 2001
Thomas was chair of Coastal’s Department of Art for many years and played a significant role in developing the art program. She served as one of the original planning committee members during the early stages of design for the Edwards Humanities and Fine Arts Building. A native of Horry County, she earned a bachelor’s degree from Winthrop University and a master’s degree from the University of South Carolina. After her retirement she established the Martha Baker Thomas Endowed Scholarship, an annual award which benefits art studio majors at Coastal.

H. Franklin Burroughs ’84 of Conway - Jan. 24, 2002
Burroughs was an alumnus who truly loved his alma mater and helped lead the institution through its first crucial years of independence. A Conway native, Burroughs earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Coastal in 1984 and a juris doctor degree from the University of South Carolina in 1987. He was named to Coastal’s first board of trustees in 1993 and served as chairman of the board for the 1999-2000 term. Burroughs was an enthusiastic early supporter of the football program and was one of its first benefactors.

William D. Davis (faculty) of Pawleys Island - March 13, 2002
Davis joined Coastal’s sociology faculty in 1975 and taught a variety of courses ranging from the sociology of religion to gerontology to anthropology. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Wittenburg University in 1965, and a master’s and doctorate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Davis was a co-founder and charter member of the South Carolina Sociological Association. He was instrumental in developing a sociology major at Coastal.
