Publications and Video Script Copy Preparation
Requestors are responsible for providing copy to be used in all external communication projects including, but not limited to, publications, video productions and digital-based promotions. University Communication staff can provide assistance in originating script and copy points. Please add an additional 10 business days to your request if origination is required.
A clear, easy-to-read manuscript facilitates editing, designing, typesetting and proofreading. Here are some necessary guidelines to follow as you prepare copy:
• Submit an electronic file of the content (Basic Microsoft word document is preferred).
• DO NOT attempt to "design" or manipulate the copy to simulate the finished product; however, design suggestions are highly encouraged.
• Include all material that needs to be typeset including cover information, forms, captions, mailing permit, return address, etc.
• Provide a list of preferred photos, video footage descriptions and other graphic elements that will enhance your message.
University editors have two major functions: to communicate your message as effectively as possible to your targeted audience and to ensure that all University communications projects present a coherent and consistent image of Coastal Carolina University.
While some preferences are largely a question of style, University Communication editors and proofreaders will adhere to professional rules of grammar, punctuation, capitalization and usage to resolve general questions. The department uses the Associated Press Stylebook as its standard in resolving structural revisions.
