The Coastal Consort is a musical group for students
to enhance and deepen the experience of playing the recorder. Most students
are introduced to the recorder in early primary grades, and then move
on to band or orchestral instruments. The Coastal Consort provides a
unique opportunity for students to pursue their interest in playing
all sizes of the recorder, including sopranino, soprano, alto, tenor
and bass. Under professional direction, members of The Coastal Consort
can explore a wide range of early and modern literature written for
recorder, learn about the instrument, enhance their individual and ensemble
musical skills, and gain confidence performing music of the 17-th and
18th centuries. The ensemble provides students the opportunity to learn
the basics of playing recorder as an individual and to have the experience
of playing with a group. There is a vast repertoire available of original
music from almost all of the major historical periods as well as many
contemporary pieces.
