Financial Assistance

Coastal Carolina University offers a variety of scholarships (merit-based and audition-based). Admitted students are automatically considered for merit-based awards. As there are a limited number of awards available, not all students who meet the minimum criteria will be awarded a scholarship. Specific criteria for each award are listed throughout the Scholarship Guide. The priority deadline for consideration of merit-based scholarships is May 1, 2017. Out-of-state students who receive Visual and Performing Arts scholarships are eligible for a reduction in out-of-state tuition and fees, as long as they meet minimum academic requirements.

Members of the CCU Band Program are eligible for two types of financial assistance as described below. Students will qualify for only one of the following awards, and you must be enrolled in the appropriate course. Chanticleer Band Program Award and Ensemble Participation Stipends are credited to the student’s account at the end of each semester. In other words, you have to complete the requirements of the semester before being credited the award. All awards that require participation prior to being credited to the student’s account will show on Webadvisor as an award with an ‘E’ action status. This allows the student to see the award pending and the Financial Aid Office to budget the award in their account. The Bursar’s Offices does not see awards with an ‘E’ status, so these awards will not show on any bills.

Additional financial assistance for (woodwind and brass) students is provided through the Chanticleer Band Program Award. This award is open to music and non-music majors, however students will need to maintain standard academic progress toward their respective degree. Note: Recipients of the Chanticleer Band Program Award are not eligible to receive the Participation Stipend.

Ensemble Participation Stipends are available depending upon ability, ensemble instrumentation needs and other qualifications as specified by the Music Faculty. A brief audition is required and money is awarded regardless of major. Stipends are available for Marching, Concert, Pep and Jazz Bands, Pop 101 and Choral Ensembles.

Coastal Carolina also offers a significant amount of academic scholarships to students who have demonstrated academic success. For more information regarding those scholarships and information on how to apply, please visit: http://www.coastal.edu/financialaid.

The federal College Work-Study Program is available to students who demonstrate financial need and who are interested in work to help meet their expenses. Serving as a “student worker” should not be confused with scholarships, stipends or assistantships as described above. For further information contact the Office of Financial Aid (see under “Other Info”).

There are no Music Department Graduate Assistantships. The Spadoni College of Education administers all Master of Arts in Teaching graduate assistantships. The CCU Band Program has a limited number of Graduate Student Workers. Please email bands@coastal.edu for more information.
