Central
to the overall mission of Coastal Carolina University, the Department
of Music cultivates and sustains a superior student-centered learning
community where students, faculty and staff are mutually viewed as learners,
performers and teachers. A commitment to excellence permeates all aspects
of academic and extensive performance-related activities. The Department
recruits and maintains an exceptional and diverse faculty, staff and
undergraduate population while supporting those efforts as we work together
to achieve institutional goals. Serving South Carolina and the mid-Atlantic
region, the Department of Music, through the Edwards College of Humanities
and Fine Arts, treats the study of music as an integral part of a liberal
arts education. Our highest purpose is to empower our students with
the knowledge, skills and core values that contribute to life-long learning
in the arts and active citizenship in a democratic society and interdependent
world. Through general education, musicianship and performance offerings,
the baccalaureate program helps foster student ability to think reasonably
and communicate as intelligently, effectively and creatively as possible.
