Daniel O'Reilly

 

Daniel O'Reilly, Instructor of Music, holds the BFA and the MA in Composition from Long Island Univeristy in Greenville, NY. He has extensive performing experience both in New York City and along the Grand Strand at such venues as the House of Blues, Broadway at the Beach, the Palace Theatre, and Brookgreen Gardens. He has appeared with the Four Tops, the Temptations, Lou Rawls, and opened for such national artists as B.B.King and the Doobie Brothers. Mr. O'Reilly is the writer and director of "Blues Train - The All American Rock & Roll Journey", which ran for many years at the House of Blues. He performs regularly with his jazz quartet U-N-I and his blues band "The King Biscuits". He continues to be an active studio recording musician and composer.

Mr. O'Reilly directs the Jazz After Hours Big Band, the After Hours Improvisation Combo, the Saxophone Ensemble, and POP 101 - the CCU contemporary music ensemble. Additional courses include American Popular Music, and the History of Jazz. He is also the instructor of the saxophone studio. His teaching focuses on the fundamentals of saxophone playing, developing a personal connection with one's music, and the practical application of music theory in real life playing situations. Students in the saxophone studio have the opportunity to learn classical, jazz and pop styles.

Mr. O'Reilly is the faculty advisor to the Catholic student group at CCU, known as the Coastal Carolina Catholics. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Beach Music Hall of Fame.
