Josh Frans is a nationally recognized percussionist, educator, and clinician. He holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in percussion performance from Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music in Bloomington, Indiana. His resume includes a vast diversity of styles such as classical, jazz, pop, marching, and world music. Mr. Frans studied marimba with internationally acclaimed marimba virtuoso Kevin Bobo, as well as Afro-Cuban and Brazilian music with Michael Spiro, one of the leading artists in Latin percussion. Josh has also studied timpani/orchestral percussion with John Tafoya, formerly of the National Symphony Orchestra.
Josh marched two years (2003-2004) with the Troopers Drum and Bugle Corps as a member of the front-ensemble. He was a member and graduate of the 2006 Leigh Howard Stevens Marimba Seminar in Ocean Grove, New Jersey and was the 2007 Percussive Arts Society International Convention Marching Marimba Competition champion in Columbus, Ohio. Josh has taught at championship high schools in Kansas, Indiana, and South Carolina. He is in-demand as a percussion consultant and clinician at schools throughout the US. Josh is currently an adjunct professor of percussion at Coastal Carolina University and an assistant percussion instructor for the Spirit of the Chanticleers Marching Band. He is currently acting President of the Board of Directors for the Coastal Surge Performing Arts Association. Josh is also the co-director of percussion for the Surge Percussion Theatre and a percussionist with the Long Bay Symphony.
