S.C. Intercollegiate Honor Band to perform at CCU
Coastal Carolina University is hosting the annual South Carolina Intercollegiate Honor Band concert on Saturday, Jan. 25, at 2 p.m. in Wheelwright Auditorium. The event is free to the public with a ticket.
Students are chosen from colleges and universities in the state via director recommendations and auditions. Approximately 100 students come together to create this concert band. The CCU students who have been selected to participate are; Ally Abs from Valencia, Pa., Ally Lazar from Cary, N.C., Bill Flynn from Walhalla, Casey Hawkins from Myrtle Beach, David Chase from Holden, Mass., Johnny Richeson from Pawleys Island, Keith Moore from Myrtle Beach, Kyle Moultrie from Conway, Zach Douglas from Murrells Inlet and Joseph Kleman from Myrtle Beach.
Conducting the Honor Band will be Ray Cramer, who director of bands and professor of music emeritus at Indiana University. Cramer is also the resident wind band conductor at the Musashino Academia of Music in Tokyo, Japan.
The performance will include pieces such as Julie Giroux’s “One Life Beautiful” and Kevin Walczyk’s “From Glory to Glory.” The first two pieces are written in memory of Cramer's late daughter. The band will also play landmark music from the wind band repertoire such as Gustav Holst’s “Second Suite in F.”
