Coastal Carolina University student designs winning medal

February 17, 2005

Margaret “Maggie” Garrett, a student at Coastal Carolina University, designed the medal for the Myrtle Beach Pelican Pushers bike event that all participants will be given.

The medal, fashioned in the shape of a soldier’s dog tag, features a pelican riding a bike under a palmetto with a moon overhead and the road stretching behind. The Pelican is also the mascot of the Myrtle Beach Pelicans baseball team sponsoring the race with Bi-Lo on Sunday, Feb. 20.

Garrett, 22, from Greenwood, is a junior in art studio. She is also one of Coastal’s Wall Fellows, a prestigious program developed by CCU’s E. Craig Wall Sr. College of Business Administration that grooms students and places them into internships with corporations in this country and abroad. Garrett is one of four Fellows in the program who are students in the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts.
