A series of one-day excursions to areas of regional
interest is
being offered by Coastal Carolina University's Division of Extended
Learning and Public Services. The programs, which are open to people of
all ages, will be held on Thursdays from Oct. 5 to 26. The fee for each
trip is $35 and lunch is included. The following is a list of places
and dates:
- Brookgreen in the Autumn, Oct. 5, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Experience the beauty of Brookgreen Gardens with its enchanting
showcase of art and nature. Enjoy a guided tour of the sculpture
gardens and a relaxing creek excursion before having lunch at the
Garden Terrace.
- Historic Brunswick, N.C., Oct. 12, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Examine the archeological remains of Historic Brunswick Town, a pre-
Revolutionary War port which was destroyed by the British in 1776. Tour
Fort Fisher, the last major stronghold of the Confederacy during the
Civil War. Enjoy lunch on the waterfront in Southport, a quaint seaport
village.
- Historic Georgetown, Oct. 19, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Experience the Gullah Roots tour which accents the history of African-
American life in Georgetown County. Enjoy lunch at a riverfront
restaurant following a tour of the Kaminski House and the Georgetown
Rice Museum.
- Conway Historic Mystery Tour, Oct. 26, 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Discover Conway's "treasure" of historic sites and interesting places.
Begin with a tour of historic City Hall, followed by a guided walking
tour of historic downtown. Participate in a "mystery" history hunt with
clever clues and a "treasure" map which will guide you to your final
destination, the Cypress Inn, where you will enjoy lunch and tea.
