Rosemary Daniell, poet, novelist and writing coach, will give a reading from her work on Wednesday, March 23 at Coastal Carolina University as part of “The Words to Say It: A Visiting Writers Series.”

The reading, which is free and open to the public, will be at 4 p.m. in Wall Auditorium. A book signing and reception will follow, and her books will be available for sale.

Daniell is the author of two memoirs and an essay collection: “Fatal Flowers: On Sin, Sex, and Suicide in the Deep South,” “Sleeping with Soldiers: In Search of the Macho Man” and “Confessions of a (Female) Chauvinist.” She has also written two books of poetry, “A Sexual Tour of the Deep South” and “Fort Bragg and Other Points South.”

Daniell is perhaps most well-known as the leader of Zona Rosa, a Southern women’s writing group, and out of this experience she has written two books on the writing process: “The Woman Who Spilled Words All Over Herself” and a forthcoming work of “exorcises” from Zona Rosa.

In “Fatal Flowers,” one of the very first contemporary feminist memoirs, Daniell examines the myth of the Southern belle and its destructive impact on individual women (her mother, in particular, who commits suicide).

The reading is co-sponsored by the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts and the Fred Hicks Speaker Series. The final author in the series is Sheri Reynolds, a Conway native and author of “Rapture of Canaan,” a 1997 Oprah book selection, on April 7.
