Sociology honor society presents USCs Sheheen as speaker

Fred Sheheen, a senior fellow at the Institute for Public Service and Policy Research at the University of South Carolina, will discuss South Carolinas progress since the end of segregation in public schools on Thursday, March 31 at 7 p.m. in the Wall Auditorium at Coastal Carolina University.

The address, A Report by the Editor, is part of the induction ceremony for Alpha Kappa Delta, an international sociology honor society. The event is free and open to the public.

Sheheen, a former journalist for The Charlotte Observer, is a graduate of Duke University and the Institute for Education Management at Harvard University. He served on South Carolinas first Human Affairs Commission for 10 years and crafted and implemented policies in state colleges and universities to provide equality for African-Americans.

The student inductees include: Marcia Balazs, Miranda Curry, Patrecia Filippone, James Gallagher, Morgan Lea Kilgore, Julie Little, Duane Lyons, Tiffany Nesbit, Philip Mealing and Coretta ODessa Smalls.
